Deep brown pour beige/tan head light striped lacing ... aroma is roasted coffee and of anise (licorice) .... taste is of roasted coffee and malts, anise (licorice), some dark overripe fruits, candi syrup and a lingering spicy dry abv warming finish ..... not a bad brew like a stout and belgian strong ale

2011-12-03. Black body with a modest tan head. 3+ First sips are quite roasty, light alcohol character, sugary malt accents, hints of spice or am I reaching? Sugary notes are nice, light herbal character in the finish. 7+ Dry malty accents over sweet malt in the aroma, light roast and alcohol. 7+ Smoothed medium bodied palate. 3+ Decent. Tap at Blue Monk, Buffalo

Tap pours opaque brown black with tan head. Smells of heavy roasted grain and coffee with some sweetness. The taste is similar with belgian yeast and some light spice but it falls mostly into a mild imperial stout category. Nice warming brew overall, simple but effective.

Bottle @ Bull and Bush Christmas tasting. Dark reddish brown appearance with a tan head. Toasty caramel malty, slightly spicy, lightly fruity, toffee aroma. Roasty dark malty, toffee/caramel, spicy, piney flavor. Pretty nice beer.

Pours very dark red with a tan head. Aroma is spices and roasted malts, as is pretty much the flavor. Brilliant again from Mikkeller.

375 ml bottle from Systembolaget. Very dark brown/black, opaque liquid with mahogany edges and huge tan head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, fruity, piny hops, fruity yeast esters, dark sugar, spices and some light coffee. Taste is light sweet, medium bitter and quite roasted but still fruity in a belgian way. Medium to full bodied with OK carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. A bit boozy but nothing too awful. Nice one, though it feels a bit more like an Imperial Porter or Stout than a Belgian Strong Ale (even if the belgo notes absolutely are there).

Draught at TJs: Aroma of malt, chocolate, hops, pine, and a hint of roasting. Poured very dark brown in color with a small, creamy, dense tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Slightly sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of malt, chocolate, and a hint of soy. Medium body. Average texture. Soft carbonation. Medium sweet, malt and chocolate finish is dry. 10.9%ABV is completely hidden throughout.
