37,5 cl bottle @ home, BBE 31.08.2017
Aroma is sweetish and surprisingly light with dark fruits, roasted malt and spices. Feels like an imperial stout with spices added. Flavour is rather spicy, a bit sweet and messy with some roastiness and coffee. Some alcohol comes through as this warms up. Sticky palate. Fails to pair with salted peanuts, I should have had chocolate or something else. Good, but could use a year or two to get some balance.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2012 375ml bottle from Alko

Batch 201120 - Pours dark brown with a small sticky bubbly head. Aroma has notes of caramel, syrup, spices and malts. Taste is quite spicy and malty with notes of roastiness, pepper, chocolate and hops. Full bodied and carbonated. Finish is smooth and warming, alcohol is quite well hidden. Okay, but still quite raw and unbalanced Belgian ale. 7-4-7-3-14 = 3.5

Re-rated on 26.12.2012, 375ml bottle from Alko. Batch 201130 - Taste has evolved quite a lot and is now a lot more malt heavy, the spices have blended in nicely and aren’t as disturbing as they were before. A lot more roastiness and less carbonation, slightly sweetish notes as well. Feels almost like a dark Belgian ale mixed with a barley wine with some spiciness. Nice.

On tap. Pours very dark brown, almost black with a brown head. Aroma is orange jam, sweet melon, cloves, honey, red candied apples and some sweet nutty toffe stuff. Taste is chocolate, caramel, deep roasted malts, syrup, brown sugar, christmas spices, some hops is showing and some orange peel. Santa got himself a nice little helper this year too!

Bottle. This is a really good christmas sipper. It’s sweet of chocoalte and at the same time quite aggressive with notes of something burned and licorice. Also quite spicy. BIg bodied.

2011-12-03. Black body with a modest tan head. 3+ First sips are quite roasty, light alcohol character, sugary malt accents, hints of spice or am I reaching? Sugary notes are nice, light herbal character in the finish. 7+ Dry malty accents over sweet malt in the aroma, light roast and alcohol. 7+ Smoothed medium bodied palate. 3+ Decent. Tap at Blue Monk, Buffalo

Bottle. Dark brown to black with a big thick creamy brown head. Big floaters in the glass. A bit odd malty aroma with burnt sugars, spices, glue stick, dried fruits and red berries. Something reminds me of julmust and theres a note of bourbon or rum. A bit thin aroma. Taste is sweet and a bit vinous with burnt malty notes of chocolate, christmas spices, burnt sugar, licorice and dark fruit. Herby bitterness with pine. Big body with soft gushy carbonation. Oily mouthfeel. I’m not a fan of spices, but this one works.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black. Instant tan head that disappears quickly. Aromas of raisins and chocolate, Belgian yeast and a little bit of smoke. Surprisingly not much to the flavor. Slight chocolate with a nice roastiness with a small alcohol bite to it but that’s all I’m getting. Overall a decent beer.
