Opaque black beer, bubbly brown head. Smooth palate. Mild and fine carbonation. Dry. Rich dark malt but not roasty or bitter. Mild licorice. Mild minerals. Sweet fruit in the undertone. Dry finish. Decent but somewhat one dimensional. Expect more from Mikkeller.
Black colour. Vinous nose. Roasted dark malts. Hints of chocolate, and quite a lot of vermouth. Sweet fruity sugars. holdenn (2116) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 21, 2012
Sampled at the 3Floyds Anniversary Party. Black with a beige head. Roast sweet malt and molasses. Bitter roast. Too sweet. But ok. 7/3/7/3/15

A - One finger head of gigantic bubbles. Coffee color and the bubbles fade very slowly. Nice lacing left over. Beer is Midnight black but doesn’t pour very viscous. Pours smooth.
S - Scent is very subdued. This beer is almost 2 years old. Big coffee notes, smokiness and a big chocolate profile. chocolate syrup and some pepper.
T - OH YEAH! The taste is a chocolate syrup bomb. Very high mocha chocolate flavor and a huge malt backbone. Very sweet and crisp finish with a lingering almond like bitterness.
M - 50/50 carbonation on the mouth swish. Heavy body and a long lingering dark cocoa taste.
O - Consider the age of this brew and its history, the 1st Anniversary Hill Farmstead beer from Mikkeller to Shaun is drinking great and tastes amazing. I’d love a bottle of this but knowing this was the only time I’d get to try it makes me yearn for more even more so. This was a delicious beer.
On draft at the anniversary party at HF. Aroma and taste is rich chocolate roasted nuts licorice and a light lactose like sweetness. Real nice stuff .

Big frothy tan head here, burnt roasty malts, tastes a little like weasel. I like this more than the other peeps wedgie9 (2702) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 11, 2012
Tasted on draft at the Three Floyds XV Anniversary party. Pours a nearly black, opaque dark brown with an average tan head that slowly recedes to thin lace. The nose is darkly roasted coffee, dark caramel, dark chocolate, and has a hint of citrus hops. The flavor is dry and darkly roasted, with all of the same notes from the nose. The body is full and very textural, with light carbonation and a long bitter dark chocolate and coffee finish. CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JAN 8, 2012
On tap at Backcountry Pizza and Tap House in Boulder, CO: Pours an oily opaque with a small creamy beige head. Has a sweet dark caramel and chocolate malty nose with a good amount of piny hops. Starts with good fullness and chewy sweetness with a touch of dark fruits and hoppy bitterness before a semi-sweet dark chocolate finish that hides the alcohol well. True to style and well-balanced. drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 17, 2011
