Opaque black beer, dark chocolate coloured head. Rich malty chocolate nose. Light dry palate. Sweet dark malt and dark chocolate. Aniseed alcohol, a little molasses. Just a trace of sherry in the warming dry finish. Nice beer but lacks a bit of finishing. A little less alcohol and a bit more sherry flavour would be good.
(Bottle) Pours black with a small brown head. The aroma holds whisky, brown sugar, liqueur and burned malt (almost rubber like). Undertones of black currant jam, citric acid and tobacco/cigarette ash. Also clear notes of old hops. The nose is too burned and too sweet for my liking. The flavor is medium to heavily sweet, medium to heavily bitter and light to medium acidic. Near heavily roasted, light burned, brown sugar, coffee, liqueur, woodsy/resinous hops, alcohol, juniper and berries and citrus. Bottle thanks to ditmier for sharing this. Pours out black topped with a small brown head. Aroma of rich roast, chocolate, brown sugar, dark cherries, and some coffee. Taste was as the aroma with lots of roast, sweetness, bitter dark chocolate, and some fruit notes.

Nip bottle shared by Doodler ( thanks Scott!) poured a clear dark brown nearly black with a lasting brown head. Aromas of sherry, dark chocolate, roastiness, light espresso and light charcoal. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of charcoal, roastinewss, dark chocolate, sherry and light espresso with a smooth dry lingering roasty finish. Tar, peat, and iodine in the aroma, one would almost think the sherry barrel saw some Islay before the beer. Charcoal and 95% dark chocolate in the flavor leaves my breath smelling smokey. A tiny hint of sweet sherry peeks out on the finish.

25cl bottle courtesy of madmitch76. thanks, ken! really psyched to get to try this brew. pours a viscous, jet black with a short, dark khaki head that leaves a sticky ring of lace. aroma is fantastic, really intense, with notes of espresso, raw coffee beans, and roasted malts backed by bitter licorice, sherry, and port wine with hints of black cherry, molasses, charcoal ash, and dry tobacco. flavor is just as beautifully intense as the aroma with dark fruit notes of blueberry, black cherry, and currants dipped in dark chocolate up front that smoothly transition to roasted malts, burnt oak, and black coffee with the slightly tart notes of sherry and red wine coming through late and just ahead of the roasted, chocolate malt finish. palate is full bodied, smooth as silk, and perfectly carbonated with a long, dry, finish of roast malt and tart sherry. overall, and awesome barrel aged imperial stout. potbeerjob (1343) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 1, 2011
UPDATED: JAN 2, 2011 Little bottle. Pitch black with tan head that dissipates. Coffee, wine, apples , blueberry, vinous, vanilla, all smooth, backdoor booze creates almost light mint action. Bottle (thanks ditmier!): Pours exactly as the name would inspire you to think. The nose is like burnt toast, maple syrup and bitter sweet chocolate. Tons of toasted notes across the spectrum with a heavy mouthfeel and a nice clean vanilla and spice note in the finish. Bottle thanks to Papsoe. Pours a pure black hue with a thick medium-sized brown head. The aroma is a kick in the face of huge smoke and overwhelming sherry. The flavor is similar; a battle of epic proportions of smoke and sweet sherry, sweet coffee, light fruit. Hot and somewhat syrupy. Very nice. Aggressive and ballsy.
