Black with a small, off-white head. Strong coffee aroma, a little hop, and just a hint of oak. The flavour is black licorice, with oak notes and tannin, and some coffee larsniclas (7078) - Billdal, SWEDEN - OCT 4, 2008
Sampled at EBF08.
Black. No head.
Sweet and salty in both a aroma and flavour. A bit soy-like palate.
Pretty harsh bitterness. Maria (10212) - Thisted, DENMARK - OCT 4, 2008
EBF2008. It’s a pitch black beer with a complex aroma with sweetness and notes of roasted malt, wood, dark fruits, chocolate and coffee. The flavour has sweetness, notes of roasted malt, oak, vanilla, coffee, licorice, dark fruits and a vinous touch, probably sherry. The alcohol is present in the finish, where I also find a little ash. harrisoni (18578) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - OCT 4, 2008
On tap at EBF 08. Last beer of the first day at the fest. Lovely aroma. Great choc. and then in mouth, it’s amazing. Stunning aroma, have to give it a 10. Vinous choc. Awesome. I love the mix of wine and beer. Mette (224) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - OCT 4, 2008
Fad til ølfestival. Sort med et lille nøddebrunt skum. Godt ristet og brændt, chokolade, kaffe, træ, karameller, spiritus, bær. Lidt skarp alkohol i slutningen.

Deep black (again as expected :-)) ... sweet roast malt nose ... deep rich roast malts ... juicy quite sweet ... almost Rum (though i see now that its Sherry) lots of toffeee and a wee bit to much spirit.. My third 4+ beer in a row. Oh Wasnt that just a great way to spend my birthay. tarjei (1954) - Bryne, NORWAY - SEP 30, 2008
Tap at EBF 2008, Copenhagen. Black color, moderate brown head. Aroma is fantastic roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is off course a hell of a lot of coffee, balanced with sweetness from the oak-agening. Yum, yum! faroeviking (10913) - FAROE ISLANDS - SEP 28, 2008
Draught. Pitch black, nice big brown head. Strong aroma of roasted malt, coffee and alco. Very good mouthfeel. The flavour has roasted malt, coffee, woody vanilla and bitter hops and a mild alco touch. Hides the 11,5% alc. well. Not so extreme as I suspected. petermadsen (390) - Vesterbronxxx, DENMARK - SEP 27, 2008
An extremely smooth impy! The aroma is very complex with hints of esspreso, alcohol, malt, citrus, hops and chocolate.
The flavour is big on sweet notes of sherry from the barrel, chocolate, roasted malt and a very wellbalanced coffee presence.
To the palate it is like drinking the most creamy espresso. Fin (10542) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - SEP 26, 2008
Had this at European Beer festival 12-09-08 Poured black in fact very, very black. Really oily hops again much like the ’Black as Coal’ a nutty and quite spirity aroma. There is a nice seam of sweetness running through this beer but it really is quite thick and tar like at times, aside from that it is damn tasty.
