Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, - MAY 23, 2013
In short: A muddy yeasty fruity amber IPA lacking in many departments. Lame.
How: Bottle 330ml, from a new batch that landed in Vermont and consumed a few days after it hit the shelves, however fresh a Mikkeller IPA can be in Vermont.
The look: Muddy amber body topped by a medium beige head with mediu retention.
In long: Nose is phenolic, some tropical fruits, other yeasty fruit esters, quite a bit soapy and even perfumy (rose water). This is far from what I’ve been used from Citra IPAs that are legions in North-America. Taste is far from clean and crisp. Very yeasty and with grainy toasted cereals, like croutons in a yeast soup. Fruity flavors are like breakfast juice made from extract of citrus fruits and apples. Some resin, green plants, a medicine round-up the flavor spectrum. Full body but strangely lacking malt presence, just a thick yeasty body with the sweetness feeling more like fruit concentrate than usual cereals sweetness. An overall lack of freshness in the character of the beer although this batch being was freshly delivered. Mild bitterness with a finish that adds lemony citric notes. Medium carbonation and muddy mouthfeel. Very lame, I hope this was a bad batch, I’m rarely disappointed by a Mikkeller beer like I was by this one. Just another beer rating for me, my 5000+ ratings are my main accomplishment in my life, I feel like my contribution to this world we live in is as remarkable as the contribution of the letter ‘w’ in the word ‘answer’.

This is a very lively beer! Full of taste and defintely citrus! It is good that you get the beer that belongs to the description on the bottle. If you want full flavour, get this one.

The taste is citra, and it´s great... in the beginning, then like other single hops, boring in the end.

Can at 100 piv. Moderate fruity exotic hoppiness, but also surprising low diacetyl, with moderate caramelly maltiness. Could be more crisp, juicy. Good, but not great.

Pours golden, slightly hazy with foamy white head. Aroma: intense hop profile with pine like, citrusy, floral, grassy character. Flavor follows aroma: intense hop profile with notes mentioned above and biscuity, gentle toffee (almost caramel) like malt character. Hop bitterness is high, finish dry, long lasting bitter. Body is medium, texture soft, carbonation is medium. They didn’t use all potentials of hops.

heman (1092) - Tychy, POLAND - AUG 9, 2017
Barwa złota, piwo lekko przymglone, piana biała, redukuje się do obrączki. Aromat średnio-intensywny, chmielowy (cytrusy, ananas) i słodowy: słodkie bułki, lekki diacetyl (masło).

A Citra komló jellegzetessége kijön benne, kellemesen gyümölcsös, citrusos. Színe közepes borostyán. Rendben van. (Elso Mikkeller csapfoglalás alkalmával a Jónásban, csapról).

A 330ml can with a best before date of 8th November 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass. It was a hazy dark amber colour with a two finger off white head that had good retention and left lots of nice lacing. Aromas were a bit light but there’s citrus and tropical grapefruit, melon and peach with hints of caramel and pine. Tastes of bitter grapefruit, citrus orange, pine, grass and caramel maltiness. The booziness was also actually quite obvious here. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall this was ok, but the malts overpowered the hops and it was surprisingly boozy.

Can from 100 piv. Hazy orange color with thick white head. Strong citrus hoppy aroma with zest, pines, grapefruits, caramel. Taste, solid malty base followed by nice Citra hops. Long citrus hoppy bitter finish. Nice.
