11.2 oz bottle. Right away, even while pouring it, the hops come out strong, nice, and have unique profile in the aroma. Very fruity florals is the best way I can describe it. Its not just hop water as there are some biscuits, caramels, and grainy malts as well. Big flowing head on the pour again to make a pretty beer just like the others in the series, but the tropical red color and appealing bright opaque body might this one the most attractive. The body of this beer might also be the best as well with a good medium full feel that brings the flavors through nicely. Maybe just slightly balanced towards the hops, but not overly so as it seems hard to do it any other way with the bold nelson sauvin hops. The flavor profile is again quite fruity with some tropical citrus, a variety of medium sweet fruits, melon, herbals, with some hearty grain malts and caramel. Hops completely take over the finish that may last slightly too long with a bit of slightly over bitter fruity hops. I should mention though that hop flavors that come from this one are quite outstanding which makes me more forgiving to the dominant hops. This to me was probably the best single hop showcase of the single hop series, but not quite the best overall IPA. csbosox (1229) - Prairie Village, Kansas, USA - OCT 14, 2009
Bottle thanks to theisti. This is a very interesting beer. I get a touch of caramel and biscuit in the aroma but the majority of the aroma is very fruity and slightly herbal. The fruitiness is light and somewhat non distinct, it is not citrusy at all. The hop has been described as smelling like Sauvignon Blanc grapes and I could see that, except there also seems to be a piney or herbal component to it too. Whatever it smells like, it is pleasant and inviting. Flavor wise, the beer flashes some medium caramel and lots of the hop flavor into the finish. The finish is moderately bitter and the fruitiness lingers. I enjoy the hop, but I wish the beer had a more simple malt bill to showcase the hop even more. Nevertheless, this was a very tasty beer.
