ClubGonzo (5683) - Bergen, NORWAY - DEC 24, 2012
Bottle, shared with BBGTC. Pours a deep nutty brown murky body with a small white head. Nose is terpentine, wood, balsamico, sour red berries and hints of apple peel. Taste is lactic vinegar-tart wood and red berry tones, grape-like sweetness and hints of figs and deep malts. Complex and nice. Full body, medium carbonation. Weird in its own way, and very tart but also very enjoyable.

I met this beer with few expectations. Overall Mikkeller cranks out some good products. The obstacle is typically the price point. Whatever the reason even a 12 ounce bottle is at the high end of what I normally would pull the trigger on. This particular release is a passable sour yet nothing special.

Aroma / Appearance - The beer pours a deep reddish brown with an opaque base. There is no head retention at all. Cherry pie, vinegar, and traces of superglue mix the expected with the unusual. Put together it reminds me of a slightly overdone blackberry cobbler.

Flavor / Palate - Vinegar and acetone provide the sour kickstart. Blackberry cobbler and cherry pits try to provide some balance. The tart mouthfeel is acidic but not in the same way that an American sour or lambic chews at the throat. This is reasonable but loses a point or two for the high price.

Bottle. Pours a dark, slightly cloudy, amber with a decent off white coloured head. Aromas of balsamic, light acetone and some sour fruit. Nice stuff. Flavours are slightly sweet initially before the sourness comes into play. Decent sour finish. Medium mouthfeel. Nice stuff.

Deep golden with low amounts of white foam. Aroma is heavy balsamic with turpentine in the back. Some sourish notes. Complex taste, fruity, sweet , bitter and sour, dates.. a special sour, I like it.

500 ml. bottle. Pours a medium ivory, well retained head, with bit of lacing, over a slightly hazy, reddish amber (SRM 18) body.....nose is sour cherry, light balsamic vinegar....taste is sour cherry, balsamic vinegar, slight musty barnyard, with light sweetness.....mouth feel medium, slightly sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation low. This is a different sour. The slight sweetness takes away from the complexity and the refreshing nature of many in this very broad style. BJCP 7/3/13/4/7

Rune (13720) - Tromsø, NORWAY - OCT 11, 2012
500ml bottle, 9.75 % or 9.99 % abv, from Vinmonopolet Vika. Shared with Finn. Bubbly, beige surface. Dark orange coloured body with a slight haze. Oaky dry smell of yeasty fruitiness. Blended dry, tart and sweet taste with raspberry, malt and fruit. Very dry ending added by tart berries. Full bodied, but not extreme in any way. Good cleanser (Tromsø, 04.10.2012).

RexTalionis (3825) - FINLAND - OCT 5, 2012
Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Pours hazy dark orange in colour with a whitish head. Wood, sour apple and vinegar in aroma. Exotic dark fruits and vinegar mostly in flavour.

brokensail (16689) - Dublin, California, USA - OCT 2, 2012
Pours an amber pour with a small tan head. Smells strangely like soy sauce. Harsh acetic notes, some dark fruits, strawberry, and raspberry fruit notes. Weird sweetness to it, too. The vinegar dominates the flavor. A bit of strawberry and raspberry, some soy sauce saltiness, a bit of nail polish remover and solvent harshness to it.

cubs (10740) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - SEP 20, 2012
Bottle @ Dan’s house. Pours a hazy reddish orange appearance with very little head. Spicy, vinegar, balsamic, weird berry aroma. Super gross, acetic, acetone, vinegrette, super acidic, nasty flavor. Very hard to drink.

arminjewell (9721) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - SEP 20, 2012
Pour on out of 22 bottle, Aarom for the pour. Dark red pour with thin white head, aroma has notes of wine vinegar, hints of raspberry, touch of lemon, grape, hints of funk. Taste is a mix of raspberry, hints of biscuit, acetone, nail polish. Not good.
