Borefts Beer Festival 3. Opaque black beer. Little bubbly brown head. Crispy palate. Dark malt - crisp and not bitter or roasty. A little emulsion paint from the barrel aging. Mild speyside comes through - quite well balanced. Mild chilli heat in the finish. Not fierce though. Ok.
Draft at BBF 2011, courtesy of Mikkel’s crew. But where was Mikkel? Dark murky brown color, brown head. Aroma of vanilla, walnuts, smoke, chocolate. Taste is chocolate with chili warmth, kind of like mole sauce in Mexico. Whisky comes in near the finish. Nice. cgarvieuk (26387) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - SEP 23, 2011

On tap. Pours black and opaque with a small light brown head leaving a discreet lacework. Sweet roasted malt in the nose - and sweet whisky notes. Quite a rich body, a little low in carbonation, sweet roasted malt, somwwhat oxidized barrel character where the whisky feels smooth and warming. Hardly any bitterness. 011011 Leighton (22820) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 10, 2012
Keg at the Craft Beer Co., London. Pours deep brown with a small, beige foam head. Aroma holds some dark chocolate, hints of chili peppers, modest roast. Flavor is light to medium sweet with some dry wood, whiskey, and a good spicy chili kick. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. The spiciness picks up some speed in the finish but is pleasantly offset by some burnt, woody dryness and roasty cocoa. I wouldn’t mind if the beer had a bit more body and sweetness, but pretty darn good as is.
