A black beer. Has a beige head, mostly lasting. Aroma has lots of dark notes, chocolade, roasted bread, coffee, sweet. Flavor starts heavy sweet and finish moderate bitter. Syrup texture. HogTownHarry (6925) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - OCT 9, 2008
Bottle. At Chris_O’s September 2008 DenCan bash. Shared with the infamous stout hater hisself, Magic_dave6 (who’s seven feet tall and I swear snorts fire out of his ... nose). Poured an oily-looking deep brown-black with a large dark brown head (4+). Aroma of sweet (light molasses) slightly burnt malt, whiskey (but no vanilla, thank you) - boozy and greenly hoppy. The taste was very bitter indeed - bitter from alcohol and what tasted like herbal burnt treacle - I still dug it (yooooooo’re wrong, Tom! heh heh). The palate is mostly an almost corrosive level of alcohol - it finishes (hey, isn’t this Danish?) quite nutty/roasty, even a little acidic, but the lasting impression is "hot." Overall this tries very hard to come across as "smooth" but it’s mostly "big." Theis (15152) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - OCT 7, 2008
Bottle at home - shared with Mette - to celebrate my trip to GABF (Denver & Boulder). Black - small fast disappearing brown head. Burned, sweetness, white sugar, chocolate, dark chocolate, honey sweetness, weak whiskey, ashes, wood, light vanilla sweetness, nice hoppy sharpness, brown sugar, caramel. Powerfull - not enought whiskey in the aroma - a bit simple. DonMagi (5593) - bantervile, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - OCT 7, 2008
Bottle at chris_o’s wolfie’s in town banter. Alround rating: Noteably hoppy aroma, with burnt roasty hints. Taste is sweet black honey like the Black, burnt tary character, floral hops. Dedollewaitor (16171) - Odense, DENMARK - OCT 6, 2008
25cl bottle. Pours pitch black with a large slowly collapsing brown head. Nose & taste is roasted coffee, chocolate, bourbon & vanilla. Very smooth with a vague warmth & stickyness. Lovely!

Bottle at home, rating 2200. Black with a huge, light brown head, disappearing though, and no lace. Aroma is chocolate, sweey licorice, bourbon and some American hops mixed up in all the rest. The alcohol is obvious in the nose.
The flavour is sweet, mostly brown sugar, chocolate and bourbon, and lots of alcohol. The complexity is there, but just a tad too sweet and alcoholic. The best of the "black as..." thewolf (12600) - Kolding, DENMARK - OCT 2, 2008

Pours completely black with a nice, creamy, brown-beige head. Aroma has lots of hops, roasted malts and rather vinious. Fine, creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has bourbon, wood, roasted malts, and bordering on alcoholic. Good chocolate and fine coffee in the finish. Nice enough balanced, just a tad too harsh in alcohol.
250 ml bottle, shared with Ole_R, thx! ABV was 13.0%. Imperial stout stored 5 months in a whisky barrel, simply called "Mikkeller Black As Night". Pitch black colour, brown head that does not last very long. Nice roasty aroma, notes of coffee, tar, oak and liquorice. Intense oaky, roasty and very sweet flavour, alcohol is noticeable but not as much as expected. Long and bitter aftertaste. bierkoning (13355) - La Tropica/Doarp, NETHERLANDS - SEP 23, 2008
Bottle @ home. Black and opague. Roast, dark chocolate, vanilla, oak and malt whisky in the aroma. Salty, malty flavor with dark chocolate drenched in whisky. Even hints of peat and licorice. The malty sweetness is challenged by alcohol. A taste bomb with power and compelxity. ekstedt (6790) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - SEP 21, 2008
Bottle (25 cl) from Ølbutikken. Black with medium brief brown head. Very complex roasted malt aroma, with chocolate and coffee, and dark fruits, and some faint notes of wood, whisky and alcohol. Medium bodied (surprisingly), soft carbonation. A bit sweet, although with some bitterness. Quite good.
