25cl, as Mikkeller ’Whisky Barrel Black as the Night’, retired exclusive Danish brew, thx alot to Philip for bringing this over!, very complex Stout, roasted/woody and slightly spicy/alcoholic/vinous, not too heavy, balanced, yet some notes of oxidation, hazy, small head, very good brew, yet expensive! jesperhammer (4735) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - OCT 16, 2013
16-OCT-2013, draft @Mikkeller & Friends.
Black, dense with lacing light brown head.
Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, herbs, vanilla, oak, peat.
Taste the same. Very complex. Whisky somewhat mellowed down. Full body, soft carbonation. Slightly astringent. Long roasted aftertaste. Alcohol is present.
Fine brew but a sipper.

Draft. A black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, bread, and alcohol, leading to a very dry and roasted finish. Over the top for me Koelschtrinker (20398) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - JAN 30, 2013

Copenhagen. Opaque black beer. Palate starts crisp, turns frothy. Flavour is warming dark malts with an appley sweetness. Alcohol spice. Not much barrel here. Decent enough - strong and dark.
(Bottle, purchased at Ölbutikken, Copenhagen, a couple of years ago) Pitch black colour with frothy, brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of strong black coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice, dried fruit, raisins in rum and hints of oak wood and whisky. Roasted, malty taste with strong sweet espresso, dark chocolate, cocoa, liquorice, oak wood, vanilla, whisky and a warming finish with a touch of alcohol and hints of dried fruit. Full body, slightly oily mouthfeel, fairly sweet. Quite powerful in most aspects, but still well balanced and very tasty. Lovely beer! laiti (8468) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUN 2, 2012
25 cl bottle vintage 2008 @ Beer Hunter’s, 31.12.2012olio (10270) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUN 2, 2012
Aroma has some bourbon, woody notes and some vanilla. Flavour has stinging, somewhat sour bourbon, some wood, licorice and hints of ash. Good, but too strong on woody and bourbon notes. Worse than the Coal version.
25 cl bottle @ Panimoravintola Beer Hunter’s. 2008 vintage. BBE 12/2012.stobbe74 (3789) - DENMARK - MAY 9, 2012
Pours pitch black color with minimal beige head. Aroma of vanilla, dark chocolate, dark toasted malts, mild wooden notes and some dark ripe fruits. Flavor of dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla notes, toaste malts and some tar. More bourbon and wood notes compared to the "Black as Coal". Very good.
Pours a clear and dark brown beer with a weak beige head. The aroma is malt, roasted, licorice, vanilla, chocolate, alcohol, whisky and wood. The flavor follows the nose with additional sweetness. Overall a really good beer. sfhodense (4789) - Odense NØ, DENMARK - MAY 8, 2012
