Belgo (154) - Køge, DENMARK - MAY 22, 2006
Bottle at Københavnske Øldage 2006.
Orange red and thick. Not carbonated which makes it appear even thicker.
Aromas of honey, raisins and loads of lime and grapefruit. Bit of tea there also.
On the palate it has the texture of motor oil, very soft and sweet but with massive bitterness to balance it. This is great, but you’d have to share a bottle with a few others, and not just because of the alcohol content. fiulijn (21214) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 16, 2006

2013-11-19, draught at Mikkeller and Friends, Copenhagen, 8-5-9-5-18=45
Muddy dark amber color with creamy beige head. It has that naive aroma of the old times, hoppy, smelly, cheesy, grassy, sweaty; a bit homebrew, but it’s nice and expected. Full bodied, well carbonated, smooth; it has a smash-in-the-face pure just extracted malt sweetness; very strong bitterness, which is in balance with the rest; the alcohol doesn’t even feel as if it’s up there; it has a fruity character too somehow, and an impression of nuts.
A Barley Wine as I want it (apart from the Thomas Hardy’s style which is another thing). Thanks Mikkel for reviving this one!

Nice amber color, just hazy even after shaking the bottle a lot; flat. Nice aroma, malty, mild compared to what it used to be. Strong body, very sweet malt flavor but not syrupy or sticky, thanks to the alcohol content too; there is sweet caramel and a nice sweet nutty side; it has a strong bitterness, the hop is well balanced, not much aromatic but still quite resinly and oily, with traces of Alpine herbs (and digestive liquors). The alcohol warms the mouth but it’s not burning at all. Still very good.

Cloudy amber color. Aroma of green hops, light fudge, fruity. Oily mouthfeel, sweet flavor, extremely hopped, fruity, light resins, almost no alcohol perception, fruity freshness. The Porto wine of beers. Incredibly dangerous. What a beer guys!
Dark amber beer with a nice beige head. Low saturated.
Smells sweet, malty, caramel and a bit of hops, hint of raisins and a little bit yeasty.
Has a alcoholic mouth feel and medium saturation.
leaves a long sweet-bitter but great palate!

Bottle. Hazy orange colour with a small off-white head. Hops and more hops in the aroma and then some, and then some fruits and malt some where behind the hops. Sweet bitter dry hoppy taste, almost like a dessert wine, just hoppy as hell. Full body with a sweet bitter dry hop finish. More please!!! Storm (2684) - Amager, DENMARK - JUN 5, 2006

Bottle. Orange/maber with shortlived off white head. Super sweet aroma with hops - Nectar that makes my foreskin wrinkle! Aaarghh! Hoppy malt liquor that makes my uvula tap dance! Why does Mikkeller so often do that to me? Bastards! Christian (13814) - Odense, DENMARK - OCT 27, 2006
UPDATED: AUG 8, 2012 Cloudy amber with an off-white head. Fruit aromas, melon, dried fruits. Sweet flavour with an elegant port-like alcohol, and a big hops explosion. Grovlam (4253) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - JUN 10, 2007
Bottle. [Huge thanks to Mikkel for letting me try the absolute last bottle of this wonderful Barley Wine]Sometime in early 2006, this fantastic beer was brewed. I would think that the plus one year vintage has caused the heavy hops aroma to subside a bit. That said, there was still evidence in the bouquet of the 500+ IBU in this explosive Barley Wine. Small fizzy white head that mostly diminished. Spar lacing. Clear sparkling body with a amber color. Heavy heavy malt base with toffee, overripe fruit, underling liquorish notes and apricot. In the mouth, notes of grapefruit, elderflower comes into play. Extremely full bodied with a flat carbonation and a heavy sticky and alcoholic texture. But for 15% this goes down quit smooth. Maybe a hint of dryness in there as well. Balancing between heavy sweet caramel and heavy bitter grapefruit, both competing about who will leave the finial impression. Mouth was covered in oily texture as the last sip lives the glass. An incredible lingering sweet and bitter feeling was left in your mouth, throat and mind. Mikkeller I bow my head in humbleness to your brewing expertise. Maria (10211) - Thisted, DENMARK - JUN 15, 2007
Thank you so much Mikkel for letting me get the opportunity to taste this one!! I enjoy it June 2007, but I could have waited until 2050, the bottle says - but I might not be around then LOL The color is beautiful red, dark amber and the aroma is fruity and hoppy with notes of caramel and raisin. The mouthfeel is oily. The flavour has a nice sweetness, notes of caramel, fruity hops, raisin, citrus and I don’t taste the alcohol at all. It’s very harmonic and at the same time it’s expression is delightful and powerful. A great one!! 2327

On tap at CBC, pours a hazy orange amber with a small beige head. Nose is very hoppy, with loads of fruity citrus hops, stone fruits, and a bit of caramel. Flavour is super complex, full of loads of resinous hops, a big stone fruit component and treacly toffee. Amazing integration of all the different components. The hops provide a great balance to the big malt backbones. Finishes very hoppy and sticky. Amazing barley wine.
