Lots of taste of alcohol compared to the nominal 8% abv, and it might be that the body of the imp porter does not balance the alcohol. Lots of hops aroma. The spices stay in the background. It has too much burnt and dark tastes, but too little sweetness and body to counteract it. The head was brownish and rather fizzy, so the bottle might simply have been over the top. However, it was bottled 7 months ago according to the label, so it is hard to believe. The beer was interesting enough, but not quite the level that I expected.
I can tell where they were going with this one, unfortunately for me, I got the bottle to late to get there. The beer is starting to go sour ( I bought several as Christmas gifts too :( ) The flavors of the beer couple with its turning don’t work well together. Christmas porter brewed by Mikkeller in Belgium in 2008. Darkish yellow beige head, black colour. Aroma of coffee, cacao powder, cinnamon, brown sugar, candied dates, tobacco. Intense, deep taste, sweetish onset, then heavily chocolatey malty, mouth-filling, strong roasted bitterness, long finish. I wouldn’t mind receiving this as a Christmas gift. Nice brown creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich and sweet, licorice, dark malts, dark sugar, dark berries, butterscotch, hints of coffee. Taste is slightly watery and sour-ish, dark malts, sour coffee, licorice, burnt caramel, ashtray, grass, butterscotch, dark berries. Medium bitterness, a little thin body. Nice enough, even though it’s 5 years old.

Thanks to koelschtrinker! Pours a pitch black/brown with a deep tan head that goes to a skim. Smell is spice, licorice, molasses, slight smoke. Taste is molasses, a bit of hops, some hop bite, ends with tart fruitiness and roastiness. Medium body, low carbonation. Borup (15165) - Albertslund, DENMARK - APR 14, 2013
Bottle. Black with a beige head. Aroma and flavour of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, caramel and licorice. McDear (49) - Napoli, ITALY - MAR 9, 2013
