Nice light brown creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is rich and sweet, dark sugar, sweet licorice, soy sauce, dark malts, mild bourbon, grass, vanilla, oak, dark fruits, salty caramel. Taste is sour-ish burnt, dark malts, ashtray, burnt sour coffee, grass, oak, minerals, bourbon, paper. Medium bitterness, dry harsh mouthfeel. Fair enough.
Bottle from 2009. Pours a dark brown, looking black in the glass. Head is medium, fully diminishing. Aroma is still pretty intense. Loads of roast and bourbon. Hints of chocolate, soy-sauce and burnt wood. Taste is roasty and semi sweet. Coffee, liquorice, leather and tar. Was probably better a few years ago. ClubGonzo (5670) - Bergen, NORWAY - DEC 17, 2014
Bottle, shared with BBGTC @ The Christmas Tasting 2014. Deep brown, near-black body with a large dark beige head. Aroma is bourbon, pepper, wood, soy sauce, alcohol, chocolate and hints of coffee and vanilla. Taste is chocolate, charcoal, ashes, coffee and hints of roasted bread, alcohol and cinnamon. Medium body and carbonation. Pretty nice, particularly the aroma, but a bit thin, alcoholic and roasty all in all. fkoolen (1212) - Maastricht, NETHERLANDS - SEP 26, 2014
UPDATED: SEP 27, 2014 37,5cl bottle at home. Pitch black colour, brown creamy head. Big bourbon, coffee and chocolate tones fill the nose directly after opening the bottle. Bourbon dominates the taste, (too) boozy, along with casky vanilla and nuts, roasted malt tones like dark chocolate, coffee. Dry, bourbon boozy aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel, medium carbonation, good body. slowrunner77 (12040) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 16, 2014
"Nicer barrel treatment than the rum Santas Little Helper. Strong bourbon, but not overbearing. Though it’s still sweet leaning, the roastiness in the original beer (a strong point) still shines through. About even with the base, depending on your mood, so really not going to be worth the extra coin again."
