Draught. Pours a black colour with a good light brown head. Very roasty aroma with chocolate and spices. Good mouthfeel. The flavour has plenty of roasted malt, chocolate, spices, bitter hops and some liquorice. Roasty well lasting finish. rlgk (18847) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 12, 2007
Druahgt at Plan B, Copenhagen. Black color, great brown head. Roasted, dry cocoa aroma. Roasted, bitter chocolate flavor, spices, malt, tar, quite bitter notes. Rather long hoppy bitter finish. DonMagi (5593) - bantervile, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - NOV 12, 2007
Bottled huge thanks to anders37, at chris_o’s house. This a porter? My god london has sure shown me i dont quite know my styles when it comes to beer. Aroma is sweet chocolatly roastyness, and quite a bit of all spice, primarily ginger. Taste is similar sweet and spicey, like a belgiun xmas ale, but just a dark one. Nice ale, that when i woke in the morning someone had written "To: Shane "cat fucker" " From : Lucifer" Who knows what that craz ass fool duff was upto. Black colored, medium sized dark brown head. Rich roasted aroma with spices and porterish berries, bitterness is also obvious from hops, some Danish yeasty vegetables can be noticed too. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is more Belgian styled: spices and bitterness, still this roastiness and berry-caramelly sweetness come up. Roastiness gets stronger in aftertaste with some drying sourness. thewolf (12535) - Kolding, DENMARK - NOV 7, 2007
Tap @ Lord Nelson, Cph. Pours pitch-black with a pretty, creamy small beige head. Aroma is sweet, heavy dose of chocolate and roasted caramel sifts through. Some delicate liqourice and cinnamon peeps through as well. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Initial flavour is VERY roasted and chocolate, hiding away all the spices and giving the beer a little un-rounded sharpness. As it warms up, the liqourice and spices become more apparent. Could do with a little cellaring.

[Another century celebrated with a Mikkeller beer - this time 9300] A pitch black beer with a huge dark brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate, licorice, and spices - I pick up cardemomme and pine amongst others. The flavor is very sweet and very powerful the first strong note is from chocolate, but it is very soon overpowered by spices - and lots of different ones, vanilla, cardemomme, spruce, and more - like a mixture of all the different spices used for christmas - and I believe that Mikkel has used the used christmas tree from last year to rotate the mash - I guess that is where the spruce comes from, more subdued notes of licorice and roasted malt are found in the back ground, it also has a light acidic note from the hard roasted malt, before a very dry and still quite spicy finish sets in and lasts for a long while. Just a bit too spicy for my liking, but still nice and probably better with some spiced christmas food than alone on a November evening. Bugrat (61) - Cph. V, DENMARK - NOV 5, 2007
I migth be a bit colored on this as I tend to favor porters at the moment, but it is just so damm good. Nice "dry" burnt aroma. A nice balanced flavor and mouthfeel. Maby a little on the shy side, considered it is a Mikkeller, but then a very nice experience of (again) very well balanced spices hits the tastebuds.
JorisPPattyn (9928) - Ursel, BELGIUM - NOV 3, 2007
This beer ought to be under De Proefbrouwerij, Belgium (1187). It says even so on the label! Huge foxy-brown beer, dense & lacy over practically black beer with deep purple shine (and no, I don’t like R&R). Watercress, lesser duckweed, dark malts, touch of liquorice and molasses, very fine hops. Dirk says fruity-vinous. Stout, with Chinese herbs, like 5 spices. Almost certain far-chiew powder. Tastes like entering the spices/Chinese medicine part of the toko. Slight sourish, burned malts finish. Very slick, nearly oily, bit dry-burning MF. Pretty demure for a Mikkeller brew - and typically for a Proef. It’s interesting, but certainly not great. The idea for the name, however, certainly is.
