4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
This beer is awesome, it looks awesome, dark brown foam, black beer! Even when pouring I smelled chocolate. The taste is spicy, burned, beautiful. Coffee and cocoa, it’s awesome, one of my favorite seasonal beers...
Bottle at home. Slight hazy dark brown with a brown head. Aroma medium+ malty (caramel, roasted, chocolate, coffee, licorice, notes of Christmas spices) and hoppy. Flavor medium sweet and spicy, chocolate and coffee, medium+ bitter. Medium+ body. kevinator (2867) - The Colony, Texas, USA - DEC 30, 2016
Glad to find this bottle hidden on a shelf in CO. Bold aromas and flavors of roasted malt and spices. Hops noticeable on the finish. Beautiful dark color and head. Full, smooth and weighty. Ktwse (5679) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 13, 2016
Pours black with low tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, citrus, light liquorice. Taste is roasty, bitter, almost like a black IPA. Body is light to medium, smooth with soft carbonation. hackobock (4073) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 8, 2016
February 8, 2016. Bottle, as Til Fra Via so I assume it’s this version, best before August 27, 2019. adster (874) - HUNGARY - DEC 22, 2015
Black with a large, fizzy brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, licorice, hints of ash, some spices with cloves, cocoa, dark bread and leather. Taste is light to medium sweet, roasted bitterness, light spicy with a dry note. Finish is roasted with some licorice, dry cocoa and clove notes, some earthy leather notes, hints of coffee. Medium bodied, creamy texture with a dry finish, soft carbonation.
Quite good, roasted and spicy.
UPDATED: DEC 23, 2015 Füstös karácsonyi porter a Mikkellertől, mely küllemében és leírásában ünnepi jellemvonásokat rejt, aromájában azonban leginkább az égetett, hamus, szivarfüstös jegyeket hordozza, míg ízében egyszerre jut hely a pirított, étcsokoládés és földes, autentikus porter-hangulatoknak, valamint a komlós lecsengésű, virágszáras, hosszan elnyúló kesernyét biztosító zárásnak. A megszokott téli összetevők kevésbé, ugyanakkor egy hidegebb estéhez dukáló, pörkölt aromákkal feldíszített szerkezet remekül kirajzolódik kortyolása közben.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 8/29/2019. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dark brown head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, smoke, char, tobacco, leather, wood, pepper, light dark fruit/licorice, and herbal/roast/smokey earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready/smokey malt and moderate earthy hop/spice notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, smoke, char, tobacco, leather, wood, pepper, light dark fruit/licorice, and herbal/roast/smokey earthiness. Moderate herbal/roasted/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, toasted dark bread, smoke, char, tobacco, leather, and herbal/roast/smokey earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready/smokey malt and moderate earthy hop/spice flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and bready/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an excellent spiced Baltic porter. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready/smokey malt and moderate earthy hop/spice flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering. Backlog. At Mi2 at Cardinal 08.04.13. Dark brown. Brown head. Aroma of coffee and dark chocolate. Taste of dark chocolate and coffee, with some bitterness. Long, bitter and well-balanced aftertaste. Perhaps slightly too carbonated. High drinkability! Vaiz (4460) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - AUG 14, 2015
Bottle at home. Not sure if it’s this version, but the label clearly says "Til - Fra - via" in that order, but it’s a 33cl bottle ant the Best Before date is 27/08/19. Black pour, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice, bread, chocolate, caramel, molasses and spices. Flavor is quite bitter, roasty, creamy, some caramel and with a huge body, especially for 8% ABV. Smooth and well drinkable. Lovely brew. Leighton (22836) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 23, 2015
Keg at Archea - Florence. Deep black-brown with a creamy brown head. Lots of hard roast in the nose, iodine, baking cocoa. Medium sweet flavorbwith dominant bitter dark chocolate, some bent plastic, burnt meat, charred wood, earth, burnt toffee. Full bodied, somewhat chewy, with fine carbonation. Sticky and lightly warming on the finish with some more char character - wood, plastic, earth - and more chocolate. A little too sugary at points, and also a little harsh with the chat. So so on the whole.
