A decent stout tastes a bit like red velvet cake turned into a pint. It's a fairly run of the mill stout - not bad, not great, but a good reminder of what the local might be like if you do not feel like getting too fancy.
Aroma / Appearance - A creamy ivory head slides along the surface of the smooth inky base. Vanilla, coffee, and bittersweet chocolate rise upwards like a melting pot of breakfast and snack time.
Flavor / Palate - Dry and thin bodied, the profile does not stand up to much scrutiny. Fortunately it does have a nice depth of flavor including coffee and baker's chocolate to offset the weak presence. Perhaps it could be more robust but this fine stout isn't the worst example of a basic fallback beer.
On nitro at brewpub. Pours black with a thin khaki head. A bit hop forward on the nose. As the previous review mentioned there is a quality on the nose that does suggest chili pepper without the heat. Fairly dry in the tongue with a hint of roast. Finishes clean. On tap at the brewery. Pours a deep black with a thin beige head. Roast, spicy (almost chili pepper notes), cocoa. Medium bodied, a touch of sweet toast, dry bakers cocoa, chocolate. Dry bitterness on the finish with sharp bitter chocolate. Easy drinking, nice and roasty.
