This is a Northern French style of farmhouse ale traditionally made in the winter months and then laid-down in a cellar (thus the "Bière de Garde" appellation) for drinking throughout the year. Ours is a traditional amber beauty presented unfiltred with the yeast still in it to add to the slightly fruity/spicy aroma and creaminess of palate. Brewed with a blend of North American and European malt and hops, Ambre de la Chaudiere is a true reflection of our Canadian immigrant culture. Named after the famous Chaudière Falls beside our Brewery, this beer pays homage to a time gone by when honest craftmanship and simplicity were truly valued. Sante!

From bottle. Pours a murky amber color, soft head on top. Sweet malty aroma some breadyness. Flavor is initially sweet before leading to light hops and sold malt backbone. A little to carbonated for a style that should rely on natural carbonation from the yeast. Nice easy introduction to the style.

750 swing top from LCBO: orange cloudy beer with decent carbonation and head. Fruity esters, pepper and grains in the nose. Flavours of banana, pear, and dates are backed up other farmhouse fruits and spices. Medium body with a smooth finish. Too boozy for the alcohol content in my opinion. Very good seasonal, but a little mundane for the flashy bottle mill street put it in.

Bouteille 750ml.

Cheers!

Deep veiled dark gold color with dense activity and lots of floating detritus. Slightly creamy beige 1 finger bubbling head, lasting around 2 minutes, with faint legs. Flavors of caramel, sweet grains and wheat, apples, pears, banana and belgian yeast, floral spices. Lots of ester fruity sweetness, thick grainy feel, with faint bitterness. Slick and smooth almost full body with soft carbonation. Strong finish, but well intensified, slightly vinous while not dry, lingering spicy fruits with a hint of peppercorn and clove, and leafy floral hops. I’d like it more carbonated and sharp, less oily and heavy. Lacks a little freshness, it’s a bit dull. Though nice flavors, good complexity, and quite rich. Pleasant finish, but too much yeast in the mouth feel. Overall good quality craft.

Drank this from a pint glass, poured from a large bottle. Thank you Bjorn for holding onto this one for me. A solid farmhouse!

7,99$ for 750ml bottle. Smell is unpleasantly oversweetened, with spicy notes, that quickly gave me a bad feeling about what I was about to drink. Sweet malts and a, to me, pretty bland hoppyness, make this brew barely pleasant and quite forgettable. Not badly done: I just don’t like it much...

Look, I’ll be up front. I’ve been disappointed with Mill Street for a while. There seasonal have been disappointing in the last couple of years. I used to really enjoy their brews, I can still enjoy a Tankhouse, but... I saw this fancy bottle (swingtop with wax, ooh la la) and thought I’d try. And well, it’s alright. Nose is caramel malt, a little molasses, and a touch of booze. The taste is heavy on the malt, caramel, toasty, very nice, a little sweet. Mild spice, very rich mouth feel. But, well, that’s it. Kinda a letdown from the très chic bottle, and the price.

(1847-100616)

Big bottle. Orange brown, big white head. Sweet aroma like sugar, the taste is sweet and herby but it tastes a lot of alcohol for being such a weak beer.
