Our porter is rich and robust, dark brown in colour with a dark roasted coffee nose, imparting an intense coffee flavour with notes of chocolate. Made with beans supplied by the Distillery District’s Balzac’s Coffee, this porter offers a rich, full and unique flavour. Currently, there are no other coffee-flavoured beers in the Ontario market.
I've been anticipating this beer for awhile. I was expecting it to be in bottles already, however they ashured me that it would be bottled within two weeks of this rating. So for now the sample that I had will have to do. Dark brown with light brown head. Roasted aroma. Very chocolaty. And yes of course coffee. Rich and malty sweet.
UPDATED: MAY 8, 2003 Intense espresso(double?) nose. Deep brown, hint of red at the edges, negligible toffee head. Wonderful espresso flavoured offerring. Superbly balanced, dry and oh so satisfying. Marvelous. Brewmaster Michael Duggan has created the epitome of the style!
UPDATED: FEB 22, 2003 Colour is a beautiful deep brown with slight ruby hints and a nice mocha head. Full aroma of coffee and toasted malt. Great mouthfeel, perhaps a touch thin, but with a nice creamy backbone. The coffee flavour is rich and fresh (they use beans roasted by Balzac's Coffee House right around the corner from the brewery), and is perfectly balanced with the chocolatey malt, rolling into a hint of hop bitterness in the finish.
