Bitters have been the common drink in English pubs for decades. Mill St ESB uses only traditional ingredients, Marris Otter malt and Fuggles and East Kent Goldings hops, all imported from England. With light malt and hops in the nose, this copper coloured ale gives rise to a malty body with hints of chocolate and black currents. The hoppiness is always present but never out of balance in this style.

Draft. copper pour thin creamy off white head. Plenty of residue on the glass. earthy hop aroma, old carmel malt. Taste is nice light malt up front. Some lemon. decent bitter English hop finish. Good bitter, on the low end of strength for on ESB though for sure in terms of robust flavour.

Run of the mill ESB. Pours dark brown with a small off white head. Aroma is caramel malts and small noble hops. Taste is sweet caramel and earthy malts with a small hop bitterness finishes it out.

Draught at the brewpub
Amber color, creamy head. The aroma is a bit dusty. Dry caramel flavor, dusty too, and with too much roastiness; relatively strong bitterness.
More an anonymous American Amber than a ESB.

On tap @ Mill Street TO Pearson. Pours a very light brown bordering gold with a thin head. Aroma was hard to discern. Taste is roasty malts, some biscuit, and some bitter hops. Mouthfeel is a mild bite from the hops with a short finish.

Very bland overall. Pours out a beautiful light brown in the body with a thin beige head that dies quickly. Big carbonation lingers for a long time. The nose is sweet and lightly spiced with hints of lemon and big grainy malts. Hints of honey and light skunk with no chocolate but and off fruity flavor. Overall a light astringecy on the finish, but not much at all going on

A keeper! I think Ive been a little tough on these guys, but I always respect what theyre doing and heres a good example that shows they know how to make great beer. Marris Otter shining through in this beautiful blend; if I bought this on tap in an English village Id be pleased, its what a fine and dandy ESB should be. Surprised this isnt one of their highest rated brews.

On tap at Beertown (Hespeler). Dark amber and clear. Mild caramel and English hops aroma. Taste is toasty, slightly roasty, caramel, and nutty. Theres not enough hop presence for the style, and the finish is mildly bitter. Theres also a bit of "hay" towards the end, and its a little watery (but not too much). Carbonation seems high for the style.
