A variant of the Douce Vertus (changes yearly). According to the brewer, if people enjoy his Christmas version, it then becomes the ’Douce Vertus’ until the next winter brew where he changes up either some of the hops or malts.

33cl Bottle from Burg Bieren. As La Douce Vertus Bière de Noël. Deep brown colour, beige head. Aroma of cinnamon, spicy yeast, dark malts, dark fruits, gingerbread, hint of berries. Flavour is medium sweet, spicy, malty, yeasty, ginger, cinnamon, dark fruits, hint of sourness, bittersweet finish. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Good.

At Kerstbierfestival 2015. Pours unclear, chocolaty brown. Small white head. Smell roasty, bit bitter. Taste is sharp, malty, roasty. Sharp, OK.

Thank you! Sampled 330 ml. bottle @ Kerstbierfestival Essen 2015. Dark brown, little tanned mocha. Nose is varnish, sugar, huge sweetness, licorice, herbal, faintly medicinal, huge, and monolithic. Taste if tad & fizzy (same for body), varnish, licorice, herbal, tad fizzy, big sweet, faint cough syrup, thick syrupy malts. Good for this very classical, herbal & big black licorice sweet Belgian. Tad too fizzy & too varnish-like to fully excel but definitely not bad.

Brown with small off-white head. Slight hoppy aroma. Not too bitter with herbal notes, certain sourness. Bit watery with metallic notes.

mike_77 (6660) - Breda, NETHERLANDS - FEB 14, 2015
Dark brown. Aroma is sweet, peppery and a bit woody. Flavour is quite herbal with some bay leaf. Finish is yeasty and bitter.

erickok (6037) - Leuven, BELGIUM - FEB 1, 2015
Brown bodied, small head. Brown malts and shoes, sourdough, wintery. Surprisingly sour tasting, but really nice. Easier drinkable than the taste complexity makes it look like. Had 3 pints, nice stuff. (On tap at Le Strapontin)

ruigo (2948) - PORTUGAL - DEC 19, 2014
33cl bottle. Caramel, yeast, fruits and some sourness in the aroma. Average carbonation and medium body. Taste well balanced with some smoked notes and dryness in the finish. Overall, a good beer.

ClaudeB04 (405) - Dudelange, LUXEMBOURG - DEC 2, 2014
Colour is a cloudy brown, beige haed. Spices, a bit of sweetness, hoppy with an aftertaste of spices I cannot identify. Nice, but I like the original "Douce Vertus" more
