2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: NOV 9, 2014 Can: Amber body with a deep red hue glazed over it, beige-ish, foamy head resting on top. Aroma is subtle with a somewhat stereotypical "red ale" profile; some caramel, light toffee candy, toast, & a backing of floral, lightly earth-driven hops, steering clear of the citric notes often found in American versions of the style. Taste is similar, certainly malt heavy; light caramel, buttery toffee, bread, flowers, a touch of residual sweetness, & perhaps the lightest dash of roast. Mild dirty, earthy, & herbal finish from the hops, moderately bitter but balanced mostly by the sweetness from the malt. Not too much to say about this one... Decent Irish red ale, front to back, maybe just a little underwhelming.
Aroma is light, toffee, caramel, much like a scotch ale. Appearance is red orange, off white head. Taste is also like a scotch ale, toffee, caramel, light though. Mouthfeel is thin, carbonation is harsh, light body. Overall, meh. koleminer20 (3593) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - MAY 16, 2014
On tap at Dan's. This one is a little different. The pour is definitely amber work a light tan-ish head that fades down pretty quickly. The aroma is pretty typical for a red ale. There is a bit of malt, some light caramel and toasted notes. The flavor is equally as disappointing here. There is a light malt and some caramel notes, but rather uneventful. The mouth feel is thin, slick with a minimal carbonation and leaving a lot to be desired, even through the aftertaste.

on tap poured into a shaker. The aroma is a toast and burnt caramel with a light floral quality to it. It’s a clear amber brown color with a very light head, and a no lacing - very oily look to it. The taste is a medium sweet with a medium light bitter. It’s a medium bodied, malty beer, with a light, zippy carbonation and a thin texture. The finish is mostly burnt, caramel, with some candi sugar to it. It’s got a biscuity and burnt toast aftertaste with some caramel sweetness, but it’s very light and doesn’t last long. rumproasts (5359) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - APR 4, 2014
can. Deep amber with two finger head. Caramel malt base. Light hops. It doesn’t do much for me flavor-wise. Alextricity (509) - Michigan, USA - OCT 5, 2013
$2 16oz can... I’ve heard of this brewery before, but hadn’t had anything from them before.
Appearance: Burnt orange/red/brown sort of color. About as carbonated as a pop... head bubbles away before it even really forms. There’s a nice haze. Absolutely zero lacing. Pretty unattractive beer, to say the least.
Smell: Caramel malts, with a slight bit of roast. Mild hoppy presence. Nothing extraordinary here, but it just has a quality aroma.
Taste: Like the aroma, really. The hops come through a bit more, and the prickly carbonation opens up the taste buds. Pretty mild bitterness... nice bit of sweetness, and an overall solid balance. Aftertaste has a bit of that roast character that I got in the aroma. Carbonation is moderate/high with some prickly carbonation, and the feel is pretty thin. I’d maybe prefer a bit more body, but for some reason, this is working for me right now.
An ugly beer as far as appearance, but the price is right, and this is actually a very good beer. It’s nothing that’ll knock your socks off, and you’ll no doubt have better from the style, but this is very enjoyable. I’d gladly have this again. Is it bad that I am unsure if I prefer killians? It is a weaker Irish red than I was expecting. Reddish brown in color. Medium bodied. Appropriate carbonation. Unsure if it was due to the stellar beers I had before and after, but nothing stuck out at me. Good beer, but nothing spectacular. Mittenator (1612) - Michigan, USA - APR 21, 2013
Draft at beggar's banquet. Copper color with maybe a hint of red. Tiny bit of fruit and malt aromas. Sweet upfront with a strong malt finish. Nice light and smooth body. RespertFTW (521) - Michigan, USA - APR 21, 2013
Draft. Light brownish red color. Not much aroma. Watery heavy malt taste. Not a great beer for me. EricTeusink (700) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - APR 5, 2013
The can stated that this beer was brewed "true to style." This led me to wonder whether the folks at MillKing it Productions hate Irish Reds. Poured a beautiful ruby red. That was where the fun ended. Tasted like a lager that had a flavor packet poured into it. Never again. Can - Siciliano’s Specialty Market - Grand Rapids, MI
