COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name Schild Brau means essentially 'Shield beer' in German. This is our Flagship brew, a Microbrew done in the style of the special beers of Munich. This beer is brewed in the style of a Vienna style lager. This style was first developed by Anton Dreher in Vienna in 1841. He used a new type of sweet caramelized malt that gave the beer a wonderful reddish, coppery color and a juicy malt character. Word soon spread to Germany where this style of beer became immensely popular, and stronger versions called Marzen or Oktoberfest were soon made. Our beer uses these same malts to attain a perfect balance between malty sweetness and a firm bitterness. Our Hallertau hops are imported from Germany give it subtle spicy flavor. The repeated awards that we have received for this beer only confirm why many people consider this beer to be synonymous with Millstream Brewing at its best.

Bottle from iowaherkeye via Mystery Swap 2.0. Pours clear deep ruby color with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, red wine grapes, toffee. Tastes caramel malty, with some cabernet notes, honey, toffee, and slight hops. Fairly rich palate, with a lot of fruity notes.

Bottle. Clear brownish orange pour with a thin white head. Aroma of malt and earth. Taste is malt, caramel, and just a touch of hop. Decent stuff.

355mL courtesy of Atom. The pour is a hazy, orange amber. A large, beige head erupts with sheen, rocky appearance. Spotty lace. Nose is honey wheat bread, fresh orange, dough, rustic malt. Very nice actually. Taste is rich with unfortunately some heavy metallic character coming through and finishing with mild lemon and soap. Really hits the palate with quenching viscosity and citrus. Was in the running to be a real treat, but metallic notes throw it off.

12oz bottle, from Brennans in Madison. Purchased during GTMW. June is notched on the label. Mostly clear darker amber color. Thin off-white head. Leaves decent dots and ropes of lace. Caramel malt and dark fruit dominate flavor. Some toastiness, hints of chocolate. Medium body. Kind of slick texture. Kind of soft, rougher carbonation. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter, light weird bite at the end. Gets better as it sits and warms up a bit, but still sort of overly malty and sweet.

Pint at the brewery tasting room. Crisp, fresh, livey hay flavored malts (lightly sweet, lightly chewy) with some greenish vegetal notes and some caramel chewiness, finishing with a mild tawng on the back. Good overall.

Apparent chocolate and a malty goodness! One of the Millstream standards that you should try if newly exploring Iowa beer.

Tallahassee Tasting at Proof/Liquor Loft - 12 oz bottle. Light copper pour, soft white head. Mild flavor - pick up some apricots, a bit of nuttiness. Mouthfeel is crisp and clean. Thanks to drowland for bringing this.

Bottled. Poured cloudy medium orange with a sticky off-white head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasted nutty and bready malts with wet medium-skinned fruits and related tartness accenting.. OK for the style. The flavor found sweet caramel and fruity notes at the core with tart fruit skins and a hit of oxidation around.. found some prickly carbonation and peppery notes on the finish. Lighter-bodied and sweet overall on the palate.. a tad too sharp toward and through the finish.. not my favorite.
