COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name Schild Brau means essentially 'Shield beer' in German. This is our Flagship brew, a Microbrew done in the style of the special beers of Munich. This beer is brewed in the style of a Vienna style lager. This style was first developed by Anton Dreher in Vienna in 1841. He used a new type of sweet caramelized malt that gave the beer a wonderful reddish, coppery color and a juicy malt character. Word soon spread to Germany where this style of beer became immensely popular, and stronger versions called Marzen or Oktoberfest were soon made. Our beer uses these same malts to attain a perfect balance between malty sweetness and a firm bitterness. Our Hallertau hops are imported from Germany give it subtle spicy flavor. The repeated awards that we have received for this beer only confirm why many people consider this beer to be synonymous with Millstream Brewing at its best.

An okay amber. Near to no aroma. The flavor is a bit off. The malts taste like they were roasted just a bit too long, and the hops add a level of surprising astringency.

bottle @ Johns Grocery / Iowa City IA --- Hazy medium orange amber with a good ivory head that drops to a light cover, tiny dots of lace. Taste is semi-sweet caramel malt that moves directly through the palate to a finish that is more fizz than it is hops. Either way, its enough to balance. Not a big deal, but drinkable.

Pour is a dark red with a small white head. Aroma is lagery with a bit of caramel in there. Flavor is malty but dull all over. Really watery in the end and not a good rep of the style.

A delicious and very true to style old world Vienna. This has a nice malty nose & a good flavor with a well balanced hop bitterness. Very easy drinking (I could drink this all night) It is a very nice deep red color that has a nice head and leaves a good lace.

Pretty standard amber; it strikes me that the length of the commercial description may be inversely related to the depth of flavors--I cant think that this needs this much of a write-up: its just your basic "broad appeal" beer. Bottle.

Golden amber, little head w/ some spots of lace. Typical Millstream character--sweet w/o much in the way of hops. Drinkable but like all their beers theres nothing special.

Light burnt orange color with very little white head. Aroma of dough and some stale malt. Crisp, albeit watery flavor with some notes of caramel and dough. A bit of Hallertau hops in the finish. Pretty bland and nondescript.

Amber with a medium white head. Aroma of light caramel , sweet malts and light German hops. Taste is pretty light too, mostly of sweet caramel with a little hop character to balance it out. A drinkable and forgettable Vienna.

12 oz bottle pours amber with a off white head. Aroma of the roasted malts and grain. Taste is the malts and nutty with a hint of bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
