COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name Schild Brau means essentially 'Shield beer' in German. This is our Flagship brew, a Microbrew done in the style of the special beers of Munich. This beer is brewed in the style of a Vienna style lager. This style was first developed by Anton Dreher in Vienna in 1841. He used a new type of sweet caramelized malt that gave the beer a wonderful reddish, coppery color and a juicy malt character. Word soon spread to Germany where this style of beer became immensely popular, and stronger versions called Marzen or Oktoberfest were soon made. Our beer uses these same malts to attain a perfect balance between malty sweetness and a firm bitterness. Our Hallertau hops are imported from Germany give it subtle spicy flavor. The repeated awards that we have received for this beer only confirm why many people consider this beer to be synonymous with Millstream Brewing at its best.

Bottle. Pours amber with orange tint. Smells of nut and mild malt but very weak in terms of aroma. Taste of caramel, bourbon and sweet malt. Decent amber.

From old tasting notes. Amber orange hue with lots of small bubbles leading to a fuzzy beige head. Pleasant floral hop aroma with a perfumy sweetness. Mildly sweet toasted malt flavor. Slightly biting finish has a nice hoppy character. Decent.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2016 Bottle into a shaker. Pours copper with a small and quickly dissipating white head. Very little aroma with just a hint of malt. A nice toasted malt and biscuit taste throughout. Good medium body and carbonation. A nice amber but nothing amazing.

An okay amber. Near to no aroma. The flavor is a bit off. The malts taste like they were roasted just a bit too long, and the hops add a level of surprising astringency.

Not my preferred style of beer, but everything about it seemed to mesh together. I liked it, but I’m certainly not going to the store to purchase it.

Bottle courtesy of HuskerTan, many thanks! Clear deep golden amber color, white head that settles rapidly. Aroma of lightly toasted biscuit dipped in caramel. Taste is burnt caramel, light spice. Tasty but undercarbonated.

Out of the bottle dated June. Dark amber/copper hue with a small amount of haze, white head with medium lacing. Nutty with caramel notes and a hint of smoke on the finish. Mouth feel is crisp with some decent carbonation. Sweetness in the beginning finished with an earthy mild bitterness. Very pleasant overall roasted malt flavor and balanced example of style.
