12oz bottle courtsey of PEPSIEDCAN and the great state of IOWA. Pours a cloudy amber with a generous sized head which eventually fades into a ring but still hangs around. Jesus, the nose on this beer is amazing... A dew filled morning after a night of camping... The ashes still smoldering, a few beer cans strewn about. Roasted hot dogs and sunshine... Hangovers and raccoon shit. Honestly, I have high hopes for this beer. First sip... OH MY GOD IS THIS FUCKING TERRIBLE. Way, way overdone on the artificial liquid smoke. Fuck, this beer is like just straight chugging liquid smoke. So fake, so chemical tasting, so repulsive. There is no way in hell I can finish this 12oz bottle, and I can chug some nasty shit, believe me. Holy Hell, this is the worst Barleywine I’ve ever had. Do. Not. Buy.

No date on bottle. Pours a nice deep red with quickly fading head, decent lacing, and lots of yeast sediment. Aroma is smoked meats, woody campfire, and peat. Also, a little richness from some dark fruit, but overall the aroma is too heavy on the processed meat vibe. Taste is similar, with a little malt up front before diving in to the smoked wood taste. I’m not a big fan of smoke beers anyway, but it was a little interesting having a barleywine as a base. Not much alcohol detected, but I wasn’t excited to finish this one. Pours a reddish copper with almost no head with some grain particles floating in the beer. Aroma was faint, perhaps a bit of smoke. Very creamy and nice viscosity, the taste is smoke, sweet barley malt, some caramel, licorice and alcohol. Smokiness dominates the flavor profile. Not my favorite barleywine, but a decent brew.

12oz bottle-tan-dk amber. A-smoke, med malt-roast. T-smoke/peat/ashy, med malt-roast/caramel, some earthy hops. Wrong mouthfeel for a barleywine.

Kind of a burnt woody smoked, caramel, a touch fruity, just a bit spicy aroma. Chewy, sweet BBQ, applewood, toffee, smoked woody, a bit herbal, fairly well balanced beer. Bottle shared by JCWattsrugger. Pours reddish amber with off white head. Nose and taste of smoke, candied malt, peat, brown sugar and dark fruit. A bit too smoky with not much else going on. Quick finishing - lighter than medium body.
