Cask (CWAF2012, Fri)
Another in the sweet-malty-mellow-winter-warmer-to-strong-ale class, of which there are many at the festival. Maybe I’ve become jaded by now. This is near the end of the cask, and a little flat. The aroma just isn’t jumping out of the glass at me. Sweet malts, a bit of cakey spicyness, that’s all. Oooh, I take it back - this is lovely in the mouth. Mellowness is the number 1 word here. There’s plenty of tangy twists to the sweet malt body, but they’re all subtle and well integrated, and not shouting for attention at all. A fresher one of this would really press my buttons I’m sure.
