Pigs Ear Festival, Hackney. Smooth palate. Chocolatey malt. Has a sourish fininsh with a trace of smoke. Nice.
Cask (handpump) at Pigs Ear Beer Festival, December 2007. Not sure how this differs from Marcus Aurelius other than a slightly higher ABV. Black with a thin beige head. Powerful roast malt aromas and flavours. Seemed little sweeter and more vinous than the Marcus Aurelius but still has bags of chocolate and burnt bitterness. Very good stuff.

Milton make cracking stouts, no question. This certainly enhanced my opinion. Totally opaque black red with a thin tan rim. Very inviting looking beer. wonderful aroma of coffee, thick fruity malt and beautiful delicate smoky notes and some faint vanilla and banana in the background. Stunning Milton darkness in the mouth. A tonne of chocolate and fruit with some amazingly smooth and elegant alcohol. Liquorice and almost chalky bitter chocolate finish with just a lick of sourness and very dry. Similar to the Marcus, it’s got the lot. Body, balance, bags of complexity, finesse and very moreish. Beer of the festival by some margin for me and a great way to start the night of my birthday.
Vinous, foffee, malt, warming edge of alcohol. Sherry-like oxidation. Decent, but one is enough.
