Beese (2742) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 1, 2014
Cask gravity at the St Albans Beer Festival 2012. Poured a very dark brown, with a halo of beige head. Aroma of dark malt, cocoa and fudge. Fairly light mouth feel. Roasted malt in the flavour, with some molasses and chocolate. Finish was slightly earthy, but with dried fruit and liquorice.

Cask at Devonshire Arms, Cambridge. How terribly black. Very little head, but that’s ok. This is beautiful. Salt liquorice, cough drop, chocolate malt aroma. Lovely sweet taste, a bit cloying although forgivable in the overall context. Thin to medium body. A very well made stout.

tombyars (1702) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - JUL 22, 2014
Tasted this at the GRAF, in The Briggait, Glasgow on the 27th June 2014. Cask, handpump dispense. Pours a dull black in colour with a thin creamy buff head. Sweet malt in the aroma with treacle fudge notes present in the long nose. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a tiffin cake base with fruit notes of moist raisins, figs and then Belgian chocolate and treacle fudge flavours also present. There is a definite earthy hop prickle in the aftertaste but this fades quickly. Finish is malty and sweet with treacle fudge, chocolate truffle and a drier note of roast grain full in the mouth. This is an excellent session stout, full of complexity and body. Rated this as one of the top three Stouts at the festival. Highly recommended.

ManVsBeer (10467) - Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - MAY 1, 2014
Cask @ Dirty Dicks, Halifax. Practically black with a creamy off-white head. Crisp and refreshing for a stout with a small roasted malt aroma and taste.

Classic, slightly dry stout taste. Softly woody, quite lip smacking, decent profile and enjoyment.

White Lion. Black, so very black. Has all the flavours and aromas I like in a stout - chocolate, liquorice, vanilla, and a nice burnt roasted bitterness. On to a winner? Almost. I like my stouts to be full and thick, whereas this is light and thin. Still, it’s top notch - maybe a summer stout?
