COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Full bodied, orange hued ale. A variety of toasted and caramel malts create a nice backdrop to the aggressive citrus and floral hop notes. Brewed with three different kinds of hops, this IPA is balanced by the oats added to the mash. The oats not only add an unexpected sweetness, but also a heavier mouthfeel.

Slightly cloudy and golden Amber color. Malty and slightly yeasty aroma. Bready character with a mild citrus bitter finish.

Sampler at the brewpub. It poured a hazy amber color with an off-white head. The aroma was of yeast, malts and some hops. The taste was similar to the aroma with more yeast, malts, hops and medium carbonation with a nice bitter aftertaste. Decent.

12oz bottle from singles rack of the local liquor store. No bottle date. Darker than standard pour, off-white head. Aroma has candied fruit, lemon and a strong caramel malt base. Taste is of sweet syrupy caramel malts, all sort of dead hops in this one, I’m assuming. There is some tangy fruits, certainly candied fruit, pineapple. Shrug? This likely isn’t what it really is. Bit of a bummer. 12

12 ounce bottle from Trader Joe’s Brookfield, WI, 9/4/16. Hazy amber, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of pine, candied lemon, caramel malt. The taste is pine, lemon, grapefruit, mild caramel malt. Medium bodied, decent balance, moderate lingering bitterness.

muzzlehatch (4969) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 20, 2016
12 ounce bottle from Badger Spirits in Beloit, WI (July 2016), served slightly above fridge temp from a Carlyle pint glass. Lovely pour - translucent dark amber/copper with a slow-diminishing choppy head, much lacing...resinous aroma initially, giving way to some mango/apricot pitted fruit notes, some caramel...on the tongue it’s rather syrupy in texture, caramel-sweet, a bit of toasty malt underpinning the thing, bitterness fairly light, though growing somewhat towards the finish, which is dry and lightly cardboard-accented. Fairly full-bodied, a bit sticky actually. Meh, it’s drinkable enough but kind of a mess overall. Not sure I’ve had a really good beer from this brewery yet; I do like their old-school labels though, have to give them some credit for that.

Bottle. Pours clear copper with some white head. Nose and taste is pine with some malt sweetness. Okay.

I’m surprised at the rating so far for this one, because I don’t think it’s quite that bad. It’s certainly not a particularly good beer, but it’s not a bad one either. As an IPA it misses the mark of the style, but it’s still quite drinkable. Lots of caramel malty sweetness, with a tiny hint of citrus hops and mild bitterness. I do get a tiny hint of that metallic taste others have noted also. I wouldn’t buy it again, but it’s not terrible.

Golden pour with a white head. It has a herbal hop aroma. The taste is bitter with lively carbonation and faint touch of butterscotch.

Can (16 oz). Orange-Amber color. Citrus hop aroma. Orange citrus with grapefruit notes upfront followed by malt and some pine resin in the finish. Creamier mouthfeel than many IPAs. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thanks to D&S. An old school micro brew IPA, hoppy but not a hop bomb like today’s IPAs. Decent drinkable stuff. rather malty. Serving: Bottle

orange copper with a smallish beige head. aroma is malt and faint citrus. taste is bitter from the start. full mouth feel. some resinous stickiness. But with some definite malt presence. bitter, slightly metallic linger. An OK IPA.
