I have it as boatswain chocolate stout. This is a very smooth stout. If you are not yet a fan of dark beers, this is a great one to get started with! Block (3183) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - JAN 26, 2014
Black pour with a fluffy brown head. Aroma is sweet and malty with chocolate and caramel notes. Flavor is similar with a light body. Smooth. HuskerTan (2398) - Ravenna, Nebraska, USA - JAN 23, 2014

Labeled Boatswain Double Chocolate Stout. Black pour with a brown head. Very mild flavor. Aroma is sweet with chocolate. Flavor is also sweet with some chocolate and caramel. Very smooth. Went well with a breakfast meal.
A- Cocoa, coffee, soy sauce, molasses.
A- Black liquid, dark color, beige head.
T- Soy sauce, chocolate, coffee. Slightly bitter.
P- Medium body, thin texture, soft carbonation, dry finish.
O- This was a bit of a letdown. Tones of cocoa and an odd soy sauce flavor. A poor chocolate stout. Amber_Lamps (12) - Alberta, CANADA - JAN 17, 2014
650ml bottle. Dark black colour with weak head. Heavy coffee roast and strong alcohol aftertaste on back of tongue. Zero hops and little chocolate smell or taste. More thought and effort went into the label than the product. Worst beer in this variety I have ever tasted. ThreeCats (1002) - ISRAEL - JAN 14, 2014
Black with a nice creamy mocha head. Aroma of a fair bit of roast, coffee, some ash, and a resin note. After beer warms a bit bitter chocolate flavor comes out as well, and some caramel. Taste sweet and chocolaty, lovely in itself but not quite straight "stout". I think possibly sweet stout or milk stout would be a better classification. Other than that, a nice beer. Sweet to the point that you probably wouldn’t want another, but not a bad desert. Chocolate on palate.

Bottle from Santa
Pours a solid black with a smallish tan head.Aromas heavy on the roast and coffee and light on the chocolate as advertised. Bits of caramel and dark fruit round out the nose. The flavor is a slightly sweet roasty coffee malt beverage. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet roasty mouthfeel. Decent beer, but a bit one dimensional and not nearly enough chocolate of malty sweetness to make me think of chocolate. justsayswell (285) - Kansas City, Kansas, USA - DEC 29, 2013
Pours dark brown with a big rocky head. Looks like muddy root beer. Aroma is baking chocolate, soy sauce, and a hint of smoke. Medium to light palate. Taste is soy sauce, cocoa, burnt coffee. Kiss of piney hops. Meh. Incredible deal at $2 for a bomber though. DialSquare (5131) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - DEC 14, 2013
Bomber from Trader Joe’s listed as: Boatswain Chocolate Stout. Deep black pour with thin light brown head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, caramel. Tastes are along the same lines with the chocolate most prominent. Kind of a milky chemical vibe. Not horrible, but isn’t improving as it warms. For only 3 bucks... still would pass. This is a very flavorful beer with a delightful chocolate nose and initial flavor and a roasted malt finish. If you are a fan of this style of stout, you must try this one. Mep3222 (1641) - East Greenbush, New York, USA - NOV 28, 2013
Aroma is of cocoa and almost a lager smelling base. Not the best aroma for a stout. Taste is very chocolate. A bit watery palate for a stout. Cocoa dominates. Not too much roasted malt flavor to balance. Dry carbonated finish. Drinkable stout, but not the best.
