Bottle at Dad’s for the half marathon tasting. Pours a deep brown to black with a thin tan head. Roast and cocoa on the nose, soft dusty chocolate. Medium bodied, light spicy chocolate. Soft cocoa, nice maltiness. A bit papery into the finish. Slow chocolate. blipp (9268) - La Mesa, California, USA - JUN 24, 2015
Bottle as "Boatswain Chocolate Stout." Pours near black with a beige head. Chocolate sweetness, mild roasted malts, and some odd light bitterness. Not horrible. GTAEgeek (2217) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - MAY 22, 2015
22 oz. bottle, given to me by Ian. Pitch black color, with a big, dark brown head. Nose is bitter chocolate, molasses, cinnamon, and some light anise. Sweet and malty, with a reasonable bitterness. Long, bitter aftertaste. Medium to heavy body, very syrupy and sticky. This is a fair stout; lacks some complexity, and is a little too bitter. bigericsports (84) - Berkeley, California, USA - MAY 17, 2015

(aka:Boatswain Chocolate Stout from "Trader Joe’s") Cocoa aroma. Solid black with slim tan head. Mild coffee taste but the cocoa dominates. Smooth dry finish with a touch of sweetness. Beersmithbacon (111) - San Luis Rey, California, USA - MAY 14, 2015
Very lean and seems to be a character of this brewery. Good cocoa and some roast in nose. The good side of this brewery not putting much too forward is that the typical harshness associated with this style is not there. ironforlife433 (2) - - MAY 9, 2015 does not count
My buddy bought that at the store today. And for a $2 chocolate stout it is good plaugher (478) - Nova Scotia, CANADA - MAY 6, 2015
650ml bottle as Boatswain Chocolate Stout. Pours jet black with sparse beige head, quickly dissipates. Nose of sweet cocoa, a bit of coffee, a bit of vanilla. Roasted malts. Slight hop bitterness, bitter finish. A little too light on the palate; was hoping for something more robust.
