Bottle. Pours a black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty caramel aroma. Roasted malty weak sour chocolate caramel flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate and caramel finish.

Hazy medium brown, aroma is sort of a thin, slightly chocolatey but a bit estery stout, definitely reminding me of certain Caribbean stouts. Kinda tastes like Caribbean stout, too, with chocolate syrup, esters and a thin body.

Bottle, 22oz. As Boatswain Chocolate Stout. A two-finger, light beige head forms over a clear looking dark brown to black body. The aroma is cocoa-ish and lighlty chocolate-ish, with some roasted notes. A touch of dms in the initial flavor is soon overpowered by roasted malts and chocolate. Some bitterness. Soft and smooth on the palate, medium body fullness. A bit sweet towards the end, but it dries up. Perhaps a bit one-tracked, but far from bad. 130808

Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours black with tan head. Nose/taste of cocoa powder, toasted barley, lightly roasted coffee and toasted black malt. Cocoa seems a bit artificial. Lighter than average body. Very drinkable, just not much to it.

Pours dark brown in color with a rather sizable tan head. Not a bad aroma, actually. Some chocolate along with roasted malt and a mild toffee sweetness. There might even be a touch of vanilla. The roasted malt is the most dominant flavor, but there is a little bit of toffee and chocolate in there. The vanilla that seemed present on the nose doesn’t really come through at all. The body on this beer is incredibly thin and light.

Bomber from Fresh & Easy in Vacaville, CA . Pours very dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma is primarily cocoa, but there’s a hint of burnt malt. Full bodied. Flavor is largely cocoa, but there’s an ashy burnt malt accompaniment which is fairly smooth. Quite drinkable.

Bomber from the Trade Joes in Davis, CA as Boatswain Chocolate Stout. Pours very dark brown with a 3 finger creamy tan head. Aroma is primarily cocoa, but there’s a hint of burnt malt. Full bodied. Flavor is largely cocoa, but there’s an ashy burnt malt accompaniment which is fairly smooth. Quite drinkable.

Bottle BWCS. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted malt and chocolate aroma. Medium chocolate sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a soft beer that just met my expectations.

As Rhinelander Chocolate Bunny Stout: A deep dark stout with a thick lacing and frothy dark brown head. In aroma, sweet milk chocolate with vanilla and solvents. In mouth, a sweet chocolate with chalky notes, a bit watery and plain. On tap at Istmus Beer and Cheese Fest, Jan 19 2012.
