I love the smell and appearance, but the taste falls a bit short and the aftertaste does not appeal to me. vikingguy (1102) - Carver, Minnesota, USA - MAR 7, 2011
Attractive beer...very dark brown, thick foamy brown head, bubbly carbonation. Sweet malt on the nose. Taste: Sweeter than I was expecting. Notes of brown sugar, milk chocolate, caramel, toffee and some mellow roasted malt. Appearance, taste and aroma get very high marks for me...palate on the other hand is where this loses points. This starts off so promising but then seems to fade. Body is too thin and not enough bittering hops. Seems a little unbalanced. Overall though, I’m pretty satisfied with this and I think the ratings for this are a tad too low. RSRIZZO (1986) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - SEP 29, 2009
From a 12 oz bottle (courtesy of Headbanger) in a Shaker at 40°. Color is a deep dark brown with good carbonation and a thin tight off white head. Aroma is a sweet roasted scent with a hint of coffee in the back. Taste is sweet and smoky. Starting with a lighter medium body it goes down crisp. Finish is a roasted malt flavor with a good smoky taste and a coffee bitterness. After taste is dry and bland. This is a nice brew but it needs a little something. mcjay (463) - Neenah, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 1, 2010
This one really throws me off. Amber color with a tan head. The typical roasted malt aromas are present but this brew also has hints of chocolate and cherries. The flavor is where it really gets interesting. It has the light toffee taste you’d expect from a bock but it’s overpowered by what I can only describe as a cherry cola flavor and it makes for a unique after taste. Overall this brew is surprisingly sweet and not your typical bock. Lemke10 (981) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 23, 2013
I took a tour of the Minhas Craft brewery in Monroe, WI in late Summer 2010. As a parting gift for taking the tour they gave away free bottles of beer and fighting billy bock was one of them.
This bock pours a dark brown with a normal head of foam. For being a bock this had a much lighter flavor than most bocks. It also didn’t leave much of an after taste. Something new and different to try but probably not going to be anyone’s regular purchase.

650 ml bomber bottle from Liquor Depot, served in a footed lager glass. After the chemical-warfare hell of one single glass of Minhas’ Bad Hare Egotistical Jerk Triple IPA (I can still feel it burning...burning...), let’s see if they fare better with a less daring, softer, "comfort-beer" style. Pours a deep caramel hue, with a well-retained head of medium-tan that leaves light, doily-like lace. Aroma is of toasted malts, caramel, coffee, light spice, roasted nuts, and earthy, dusky hops, wrapped in a gentle sweetness. The flavor is...not bad! Mildly sweet caramel, buttered toast with dashes of spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, a hint of bitter dark chocolate...all good. Mouthfeel is nicely thick and chewy, and it all finishes happily. It’s a bit of a roughly-hewn bock with some cracks here and there, but quite enjoyable in its own right. Sometimes Minhas, despite their best efforts, manage to come up with a palatable brew... twindadplus2 (714) - Wisconsin, USA - OCT 20, 2008
Deep brown with a decent creamy, tan head. Aroma of nutty, roasted malt and a slight hops astringency. Flavor is a bit of roasted nuttiness and a hint of chocolate with the slight astringence of the hops throughout. Creamy, slightly watery palate with minimal carbonation. None of the flavors are terribly dominant but they’re all there and mesh pretty well. For the price, it’s not a bad beer. Cole (967) - , Alberta, CANADA - JAN 18, 2009
From 330ml Bottle, pours dark blown like coca cola. Nice aroma, a little bit of chocolate and caramel. Tast is very malty, also strong coffee and toffee flavor. Carbonation is a little too high. ryanfolty (2545) - Bourbon County, Minnesota, USA - MAY 17, 2013
May 17, 2013 - bottle from Jake. Dark brown pour with some head and spotty lacing. Aroma was malt, nutty and slight hops. Taste was consistent with aroma, but also had some caramel. Slight carbonation and medium bodied. Fredis23 (564) - Hickory Hills, Illinois, USA - FEB 28, 2014
Dark Mahogany Brown Red, Huge Frothy Head That Did Not Last, Decent Lacing. Aroma of Sweet Toasted Malt. Taste About The Same: Sweet Toasted Malt, Caramel, Light Bitter. Very Caramel Sugary Sweet. Surprisingly, Yet another Minhas Product that is tolerable and decent enough to drink. Then Again, just being a notch above terrible is no reason to drink it, when there are so many other choices or new beers to explore. Pass It.
