The grand daddy of them all, Imperial Jack - robust, malty and heavily hopped. Who said "jackrabbits" don’t bite?.

I don’t particularly like rabbits at all. Less as pets, and even less as farm animals. Ok... there was a distinct alcohol presence and it made me feel relaxed with all the tension in the dart tourney (I won thank you very much!) but again.. it was a muddle of a beer. with no overall outstanding qualities other than it was cheap. Wooo!

22 oz bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Bottle from Trader Joe’s as Rhinelander Boatswain Double IPA Twin Screw Steamer. Very slightly hazy amber/orange with a finger of off-white head. Aromas of big malt right off the bat, some citrus, light floral. Tastes of malt, some citrus, caramel, biscuit, sweet syrup. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Sort of a thin syrupy mouthfeel. Very malt-forward and sweet. Not terrible for two bucks and change but not something I’d revisit.

$3 bomber from trader joes labeled as boatswain double IPA, twin screw steamer. First I thought it to be a little ruff then it seem to smooth over a little as the session continued, must have been the 9% alky dulling my senses. Yes, some dull hop sensations with a tad of sweetness along with that typical mouth coating ipa feeling. but I must say, this is probably a little easier to take than many double IPA. Not sure if it really is a double but it provides the brain numbing kick of a double. Good value fer sure! Glad to have come across these boatswain beers, very good value for what they are.

This is the third beer I’ve had from Minhas brewing, albeit listed under a different label. The first two were actually so bad I returned them. This one is barely better. Resembles a double IPA only in colour. Body is watery syrup. Aroma is malt extract with not even a hint of hops. Flavour is malt extract; no grapefruit or any citrus for that matter, nothing earthy or herbal, not even one iota of bitterness. Did they even add hops to this rough bunny? Minhas has no business calling this a double IPA. Alcoholic malt water at best.

Pours a darker golden color with a super thick white head. Aroma is of stale and dusty hops with a little sweetness. Bubbly palate. Flavor is of metal, stale hops, and sweeter canned malts. Leaves a metallic dry hop finish. Yuk. Not boozy though for 8.5

Poured from a bottle. Skunky aroma but settles nicely on the taste, sharp and some honey.

Poured from a bottle. Clear copper color, small off white head. Light malt with a stronger hops aroma. Medium body with a medium hops and red malt flavor and a medium finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

650 ml labeled as "Boatswain Double IPA" Aroma is pale malt, bread, sugar and a weak herbal hop. Caramel

The flavor is is as unexciting as the aroma. I feel like the flavor isn’t as bad as some of the ratings lead you to believe but surely nothing anybody is going to purchased again. Caramel base, citrus and weak herbal hints with just a lot of sugar. Way to much sugar. The bitterness doesn’t really come from a pronounced hop, kind of generic bitter. I guess for the price it’s ok. More like a weak attempt at a homebrew.

AdamChandler (5052) - Enfield, New Hampshire, USA - AUG 10, 2015
Dark orange. Smells candy corn like. Very pale aroma. Candy corn, Malts, sugar and brown sugar. Tight resin, a lot of sweetness
