UPDATED: AUG 31, 2017 22 ounce bomber from Traders Joe’s. Limited aroma. Leans sweet with more malt than hops. Wouldn’t buy again.
Just bought as Boatswain Twin Screw Steamer. 12 ounce can. My guess is that Trader Joe's switches names and brewers to have a flavor-of-the-month---and save $.01/can! TheBeerGod (6284) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - DEC 13, 2015
Bottle under the Boatswain Double IPA moniker. Aroma is fruity and floral with soft malt notes. Taste is very fruity with berry notes, light citrus, floral hops and sweet malt. Body is medium with a moderate, bubbly carbonation.
Finishes with more fruity notes, berries, light citrus, sweet malt, floral hops and a touch of caramel. jjuf1853 (1302) - Land O Lakes, Florida, USA - NOV 19, 2015
Bomber from Trader Joe’s. Very nice price for a double IPA so I gave it a try. Now I see why the price was so low. Not terrible, but nothing good to really point out either. Pours a mostly clear copper amber color with a medium sized off white head that quickly fades to a thin cap. Some loose sudsy lacing along the glass. The aroma is extremely muted for a "double IPA" with notes of caramel but no real hop presence. The flavor has some alcohol and sweetness with bitterness in the finish but nothing exciting going on. Oh well. At least I didn’t spend much on this venture. Radek Kliber (7501) - Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), POLAND - NOV 19, 2015
Where and how: b. 650 ml as Boatswain Double IPA AAEA (266) - California, USA - NOV 1, 2015
Aroma medium intense, citrusy hop feel with plenty of red malt. Mild whiff of alcohol.
Top: medium, white with some lace and rings.
Base: hazy amber
Palate : medium, an OK impression.
Taste: hops muted, herbal zesty feel with mid-heft red malts. Not overly sweet mind so. It felt as strong red ale. Late residual hop feel with soft warming alcohol.
other notes decent.
22FL OZ (>$3) this was possibly anti beer. dog shit in the microwave on full high.

I don’t particularly like rabbits at all. Less as pets, and even less as farm animals. Ok... there was a distinct alcohol presence and it made me feel relaxed with all the tension in the dart tourney (I won thank you very much!) but again.. it was a muddle of a beer. with no overall outstanding qualities other than it was cheap. Wooo! GenDV138 (7828) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - OCT 10, 2015
22 oz bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Bottle from Trader Joe’s as Rhinelander Boatswain Double IPA Twin Screw Steamer. Very slightly hazy amber/orange with a finger of off-white head. Aromas of big malt right off the bat, some citrus, light floral. Tastes of malt, some citrus, caramel, biscuit, sweet syrup. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Sort of a thin syrupy mouthfeel. Very malt-forward and sweet. Not terrible for two bucks and change but not something I’d revisit. cheap (6202) - CHINA - SEP 21, 2015
$3 bomber from trader joes labeled as boatswain double IPA, twin screw steamer. First I thought it to be a little ruff then it seem to smooth over a little as the session continued, must have been the 9% alky dulling my senses. Yes, some dull hop sensations with a tad of sweetness along with that typical mouth coating ipa feeling. but I must say, this is probably a little easier to take than many double IPA. Not sure if it really is a double but it provides the brain numbing kick of a double. Good value fer sure! Glad to have come across these boatswain beers, very good value for what they are. humulushound (244) - British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 7, 2015
This is the third beer I’ve had from Minhas brewing, albeit listed under a different label. The first two were actually so bad I returned them. This one is barely better. Resembles a double IPA only in colour. Body is watery syrup. Aroma is malt extract with not even a hint of hops. Flavour is malt extract; no grapefruit or any citrus for that matter, nothing earthy or herbal, not even one iota of bitterness. Did they even add hops to this rough bunny? Minhas has no business calling this a double IPA. Alcoholic malt water at best. halfonit (1412) - Fall River, Massachusetts, USA - AUG 17, 2015
Pours a darker golden color with a super thick white head. Aroma is of stale and dusty hops with a little sweetness. Bubbly palate. Flavor is of metal, stale hops, and sweeter canned malts. Leaves a metallic dry hop finish. Yuk. Not boozy though for 8.5
