$1.99 for a bomber at Trader Joe’s in Kettering, Ohio. Everythinng is relative. And an 8.4% bomber of "double IPA" for 2 bucks? I won’t be too harsh or even complain a little. The pour is copper-orange with a head that dissipated rather quickly. There are aromas of malt and fruit and flavors of malt and citrus hops abeit very subtle. Not great, but hey, not horrible either. At least the label came off easily; I will use this bottle for my homebrew!!

Boatswain Double IPA can pour into nonic pint glass from Trader Joe's. Appearance is clear, dark amber with nice sparkle, 1/2-finger width white head with poor retention and trace lacing. Aroma is initial bready malt which then shifts quickly to fruity esters (seems like the wrong style). Taste is bread, caramel and fruity esters. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with silky texture, average-to-lively carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, this is so weird for a DIPA that it is a spectacular failure for the style. But, if you called it an imperial saison then it's fairly interesting. Not complex but odd in a somewhat good way.

downender (9008) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - DEC 11, 2017
Can from Trader Joes. Medium brown in colour, with a thin, off-white, head. Fairly raw alcohol, sweet, heavy, grains, a touch of grassy hop. An ordeal to finish.

rumproasts (6052) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - OCT 18, 2017
can from Trader Joes. Deep golden with small head. Sweet and boozy, caramel and cardboard. Light metallic note, which seems to be a Minhas/Boatswain trait. I'd imagine it takes some skill to be this consistently bad. Mark Dantonio's spirit beer.

hayduke (5731) - Eureka, California, USA - SEP 15, 2017
Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. P ours light gold with a white head Nose is light lemon and floral. Body is light for a DIPA. Flavor haws lemon and some vegetable. Something else maybe like coriander. A spice anyway. Overall kind of muddled.

A cheap 6 pack, but I can’t finish a can. Glad I only bought a single can.

Six pack branded as Boatswain Double IPA. Can to cup. Sweet floral aroma, honey. Metallic hops, apple, scotch.

deyholla (12590) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - APR 20, 2017
Can. Pours a clear orange with a light gold hue and a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a strong biscuit and earthy grain with a hint of grass backing. Flavor has lots of bread and biscuit with grass and a hint of earthy citrus.

hershiser2 (3832) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - APR 13, 2017
83 cent can from Trader Joes. Canned as Boatswain Double IPA. Pours orange with a large beige head. Aroma of citrus, light spice, bubblegum, glue, coriander. Meh.

robertjm (903) - Albany, California, USA - MAR 30, 2017
(12oz can) - Soapy looking head. Clear body the color of dark golden with orange mixed in. Light aroma of rubbing alcohol. Flavor is unpleasant. Sort of oxidized with bitter traits. Lingers on the palate much longer than I’d hope for. Thankfully I only bought a single can.
