Bottle as Trader Joe’s HLV. Clear amber color, medium white head. Aroma of caramel and subtle gun metal. Taste is caramel and an edge of chocolate. Oakes (18209) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 20, 2014
Medium brown. Some spicy hop, sweet honeyish notes, an odd aroma but I actually like it. Sweet and a bit fudgey, with a thin body and a little bit of hop spiciness.

Bottle, 22oz. As Boatswain HLV Ale. It pours a clear, brown body under a big, off-white head. The aroma has a touch of coffee grit, with roasted malts and some chocolate. Dry, medium-bodied and very soft on the carbonation. Chocolate, roasted malts, some hoppy bitterness and coffee grit in the flavor. Long, bland, roasted finish. Might need some food, certainly didn’t impress on its own. 130808 jtclockwork (16955) - , New Jersey, USA - NOV 29, 2013

Bomber from Fresh & Easy in Vacaville, CA. Pours dark brown with a 3 finger foamy tanhead. Light aromas of malt and citrus/floral hop. Med+ body. Flavor is a little brown sugar/cola with some mostly floral hop. Seems well balanced - sweet and bitter simultaneously. But in the end I think the bitter wins handily. Considering the price was 2 bombers for $4.99 this is a pretty good deal. Ratman197 (15121) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - OCT 1, 2012

Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of toffee, toasted malt, earthiness, light dark fruit and a hint of smoke with a crisp dry lingering toffee finish.
