Bottle. Aroma has some creamy toffee, but with a nagging rubbing alcohol aspect. Hazy dark amber with no visible carbonation and a thin, mostly white head. Nice lace. Flavor noticeably lacks hops which is shocking for a beer that claims 79 IBU. It has a flavor profile more closely resembling that of an amber. The commercial description says "fiercely hopped and hopped again", which is quite frankly false advertising. All that said, still drinkable. Labeled as Rhinelander Brewing with no mention of Minhas. I’m sure there’s a story behind that. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 13, 2013
22oz bottle, labeled "Boatswain American IPA", just $2 from my local Trader Joe’s. Shared with friends over a game of Catan. Mostly clear orange-red color. Thin off-white head, decent retention. Loose lace. Medium body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. More dry in the finish. Caramel malts, light fruity hop, kind of soapy. Sweet taste, light bitter. Nothing great about this, but nothing really offensive. jmcgavin12 (492) - Madison, USA - APR 20, 2013
Pours light tan with a bit of tan head. Can’t quite smells the hops that I was expecting to. A bit of musty tangerine as well. Taste is pretty sweet and not too bitter. Overall tastes more akin to an amber ale than an American IPA. Its not a miserable beer but I think they got confused with what they wanted to brew. Reid (2536) - Salem, Oregon, USA - APR 26, 2013
22oz bought at Trader Joes in Salem OR aka Boatswain American IPA.
Looks OK deep burnt orange with a fluffy, rocky off white head.
Fruity ,caramel,toffee aromas..not much hop.
Taste is pretty malty..its pleasant enough for a second then some raw alcohol which i would expect with a 10% Ultra Malt Likka but not an IPA.
Not good a horrible IPA and only a reasonable Malt Liquor.. Fantomasus (291) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - AUG 12, 2013
This review is for Underworld Brewing "American India Pale Ale"
Pours a hazy copper with a decent head that sticks around. Appearance would be a 4 without the haziness... Aroma is pleasant and fresh on top but contains a musty unfinished undertone... tacky. Flavor is unbalanced and comes at you from weird angles: Sour, then sweet, then bitter with salt... bletch... Finish is oily with lingering bitterness... Will not buy again.

Bottle from Brook Falls Discount off the singles rack. Blah .... nice pour, but not much else was nice. Bready, faintly malty, but not sweet or bitter - just thick-ish and not very tasty. Nero55 (936) - Wisconsin, USA - SEP 5, 2013
Bottle. Light amber with small white head. Some light aromas of hops and some malt sweetness. Light body with some hop bitterness upfront with a sweet finish. Too sweet and not enough hops for an IPA. MarinEvelyn (854) - Wisconsin, USA - DEC 31, 2013
Aroma is sweet, dry, malty, earthy hops. Tastes very sweet, almost like candy. Fruity, lightly dry finish.
Very sweet, not much like an IPA, but drinkable. fidelis83 (2437) - Clinton, Iowa, USA - JUN 30, 2014
Hazy copper pour with a 1 finger, creamy beige head. Aroma is floral, citrus and fruity hops, lemon, light berry notes and caramel syrup. Flavor is sweet malt, planty hops, some citrus, corn silage, sweet caramel, sorghum and some weird planty, fruity and higher alcohol notes that I can’t really describe. Light to medium body with a medium, sharp carbonation and off dry, syrupy feel. Really weird and not very good. Probably not worth the $3/bomber price. suprchunk (2994) - Crestview, Florida, USA - SEP 16, 2014
Amber colored pour. Small off white head. Little bit of lacing. A small hint of hops under a muted malt aroma. Taste is vegetal with a carbonic finish.
