Bomber. Poured clear, lighter orange with a short off-white head. The aroma picked up caramel, vanilla, and an odd blend of medium-skinned and citrus fruits, with orange meat around.. not bad, but it was weird. The flavor found sweet caramel, redder fruits, and vegetal notes.. some citrus and weird vegetal stuff around.. not very bitter, and not very enjoyable. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation on the palate.. decent feel and flow.. not a good IPA.

Pours a clear orange color with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma of bready malts and light citrus hops. Flavor of light citrus hops with some malts too. Barely an IPA.

$2.29 bomber, Boatswain American IPA from Trader Joes. Amber with a small off white head. Nose is herbal, grassy, light pine, faint citrus, malts are also grainy. Flavor is fruity, grainy, lightly metallic, some citrus and grass. Slightly harsh, watery, bitter mouthfeel. Meh.

22 oz bottle as underworld IPA. Clear amber pour, thin off white head. Sweet, sugary, a bit of caramel, and a bit of bitter metallic hops. Not good, but at least I could drink the bottle.

Pour slightly hazy deep orange with light head. Aroma is citrus, bread dough and grass. Flavor starts sweet moving to a bitter and then sour note. Tine, watery texture and light body with moderate carbonation. Less hopps than expected.

Bottle - After trying their regular IPA I was hoping this would have the punch necessary. They don’t get it and I am tired of talking about this. At least this one is a bit bitter.

If I were blind tasting this, I would not come up with an IPA. Not hoppy enough and much darker than you’d expect. Drinkable, but a little disappointing for what it is.

Bottle. Tastes like a malt liquor with hops. Good for malt liquor fans. Bad for IPA fans.

As Boatswain American IPA from Trader Joe’s. Medium copper color with a cream colored head. Aroma is sweet bready malts - very pilsner like as many others have mentioned. Maybe just a hint of an earthy hoppiness. Flavor is quite malty sweet, almost artificially so, with only some slight bittering hops present at the finish. I could maybe see this as a pale ale, but certainly not an IPA. Medium bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel. Clearly this is not an IPA by any craft beer drinker’s standards considering the uber-sweetness and utter lack of hops.
