From notes. Enjoyed at Gus’s house on December 16. 22 oz bottle shared with Gus. The pour is a darker black color with a thick light khaki colored ring of head that leaves no lace as it falls down. The aroma is interesting. There is a lot of smokiness that isn’t that great. There is a bit of a sweet roasted malt and a good chocolate that grows toward the finish. I’m not feeling the smoke on this at all. The bitterness is able to be dealt with. The flavor is much of the same. The smoke isn’t good. There is a bitter roasted malt and a light chocolate, but the smoke dominates. There is a bit of a metallic malt on the back end. The mouth feel is more of a medium body with a soft carbonation and a lingeringly smoky and chocolate malt finish. Meh. 6 4 6 4 14

Bottle from Ben, many thanks! First batch. Pours thick black oily syrupy. Lots of ashes, roasted malts and coffee, light sweet notes of caramel. Bitter finish.

I like this beer. It has a sweetness on the nose that is really interesting. When I first tasted it, I could taste some vanilla or another sweet thing in there with some spice...which was really good. The beer pours black like motor oil. It is boozy, but you don’t get too much of it in the mouth...until afterwards.

It’s pretty good though a tad light in carbonation. Aroma is roast, dark malt, toffee, graham cracker. Flavor is like nose. It’s on the sweet side but not overly done with mild carbonation and easy finish. Good beer that hides its strength.

Batch #2.

Pours a brown-black color with a medium creamy khaki head that recedes gradually to a dense film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, chocolate and molasses. Full-bodied with flavors of slightly smokey malt, dark chocolate and earthy coffee. The finish is roasty with a malt and coffee aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Bottle. It poured a black color with a tan head. The aroma was of roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, licorice, wood, coffee and some smoke. The taste was similar to the aroma with more chocolate, licorice, wood, coffee and hint of smoke. It had nice carbonation with a smooth aftertaste. Good stuff.
