3 year old bottle picked up in Kyoto (2014). Brewed 02/14/2014. Bottle says 8.5% ABV, so I’m going to adjust that. 330ml. Jet black. Short lasting dark brown foam. Slight oil slick on the surface. Lots of body. Carbonation is ample yet soft. It almost has some barley-wine notes. Deep roasted espresso, toasted nut, licorice nose. All translates to the flavour. Quite bitter. Almost burnt/ashy with the malt, and likely toasting of the barrel. Leather, deep dark cocoa, dark sponge toffee and noticeable booze. Still, it’s smooth and even. Hops just linger in the background, with a bit of black-tea notes. Finish is rich, carrying loads of burnt sugars, molasses, and anise. It was very good. Traveled well, aged well. Basically black. Light brown head. Approachable impy, has toffee, hint of liquorice, blackberry hop, nicely balanced. I like the mellow, quaffable impies. melush (4341) - SPAIN - MAY 18, 2016

Black pour with a tan head. Coffee, cocoa and roasty aroma. Taste is milky coffee, chocolate, with a slightly burnt espresso finish. It almost seems a bit this for an 8.5% beer but other than that it’s pretty nice..

February 18th, 2014 - The Minoh comes after a long, long day of lecturing in Tokyo, and while the deep, dark flavors were welcome, they were somewhat hard to describe after the two beers that came before it. My intuition, and distant memory, tells me that this is just a plain old strong stout. In color, aroma and flavor, the deScriptions are all plain. I smelled soy sauce and charcoal (perhaps primed by my location), and the same in the taste. And while that may not "Wow" me compared to other stout offerings stateside, beers of this strength are rare in Japan, and even in Tokyo. So to know that there is a steady stream of bold stuff available at local neighborhood grocery stores is something of a blessing. It’s all relative, but unless you’re willing to dish out serious yen at a local beer bar, this is a great alternative for relaxing at home maekchu (4001) - Hirakata, JAPAN - SEP 24, 2015
Bottle (from notes). Big chocolatey nose, sweet and pleasant. Smooth and sweet all the way through, with more chocolate and rich dark fruit. Warming alcohol. A bit one dimensional, though. Body is also a bit thin for the style. But this is one of the better ones that Minoh makes. Martinus (4650) - Baarle-Nassau, NETHERLANDS - SEP 13, 2015

UPDATED: APR 9, 2016 On tap at Watering Hole. Part of a tasting flight. Deep black with a creamy tan head that lasts throughout with great lacing. Huge coffee and chocolate aromas with some tobacco, soy sauce and dark fruit that comes out as it warms up. Creamy on the palate with nice balance between sweet, tart and bitter. Full bodied and rich with a nice long smooth finish.
