Bottle from VBS on 52. Pours crystal clear copper with huge caking head that reveals a lot of sweet tones, some butter cream and vanilla frosting scent over mild citrus hop undertones. Flavor is soft and balanced between malt smoothness and citrus hop bitterness. There are some much more ’rough’ tones coming through in the finish: dry earth, faint leather/smoke, astringency and slight wood. It’s a very laid back, smooth, melded style IPA that lacks a huge hop punch but packs plenty of flavor. And there is definitely plenty of head.
Semi-cloudy amber-orange body with a nice clinging off-white head. The aroma is a bit surprising. It’s more sweet than I would have expected. Toffee, butterscotch, and of course pine and grapefruit. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy. The flavor, like the aroma, is more sweet than bitter. Toffee, malt, and butterscotch up front fades into a nice pin and grapefruit bite. I suppose this beer is not a classic IPA, but it is very enjoyable. hollardustin (330) - Indiana, USA - AUG 26, 2011
UPDATED: OCT 27, 2011 When you see the name ’hop head ale’, you expect the hops to be up front and prominent throughout. That’s not the case here. Pours murky brown with minimal white head. Aroma is mostly sweet caramel malt with faint hints of hops. Flavor is very malty with way too much residual sweetness. This is not a well balanced beer at all. The strong caramel, toffee, and butterscotch flavors destroy any chance of the hop flavors to come through. It’s supposedly an IPA but is really more of a malt-bomb. This is just another great example of why you shouldn’t drink anything from MIshawaka Brewing. chibuck (3521) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 31, 2011
12oz bottle poured into a New Belgium tulip... Pours an ugly murky dark gold. The is white, rises about two fingers and has great retention and lacing... The aroma is super sweet, malts are way off and off the chart strong. Musky with notes cardboard... The taste is also off malt flavors, musky hops, toffee, chemical finish.

355mL courtesy of GCurlow. Pours a clear amber with a healthy, off-white head that leaves giant 360 sheety lace. Aroma of custard, butterscotch, Taste is English tea, diacetyl. Drying, bitter finish. wmubronco1992 (709) - Coldwater, Michigan, USA - SEP 6, 2010
Single bottle purchased at Beverage Depot in Ft Wayne. Amber color. Big frothy head with excellent lacing. Aroma is mild for an IPA . Different then your average IPA. Less bitterness and more sweetness. Some earthiness, but not the intense woodsy feel you get from many IPA’s. Solid beer, but hard to compare against other IPA’s.

UPDATED: OCT 18, 2010 Sample at the Beer ’N Rock Band tasting on 08/27/2010: Pours a clear orange-yellow color with a medium thin frothy off-white head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Citrusy hops aroma plus some malt notes. Medium body with flavors of hops and grapefruit, along with a touch of sweet malt. The finish is hoppy and leaves a short citrus aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

12 ounce bottle out of a six pack that I brought to my sister and brother-in-laws. I will be honest here... the only reason that I picked up six of these is because of the drunk hop picture on the front of the packaging... now on to the rating. Poured a light amber color with a one finger width white frothy head. The aroma consists of bitter hops and some light citrus... pretty boring for an IPA. The taste consisted of bitter hops and some malt. Overall this is a very drinkable brew but absolutely nothing special. Rynoplasty (700) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - JUN 13, 2010
Pours light amber gold with a small off white head. Aroma is tropical fruit, citrus, and grapefruit. Flavor is nice bittersweet tropical fruit blend with a nice bitter finish. Pretty good. Headbanger (4022) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - APR 12, 2010
12oz bottle 4/12/10 (Good Friend)-46° in Tulip-Pours a clear medium amber with a small white head. Aroma of hops, pine, and malt. Taste of malt, hops, and citrus. This medium bodied brew is a bit lacking on the hops but is still very tasty and very drinkable. markwise (5450) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - APR 7, 2010
Thanks to phaleslu for this one as an extra. Pours yellow-orange with a white head. Nose is a lot of sweet malt and a bit of light citrus hops. Flavor is similar with hints of butterscotch and lingering sweetness. Medium bodied and ok.
