The ancient legends that abound the Russian Imperial Stout of yore are filled with tempestuous romance, sinful thievery, and scurvy, too. So highly regarded was this historic recipe, the Russian Kings tried to keep it all to themselves. They failed. Today we bring you our own dastardly dark version, with a rich and roasty aroma, notes of plum and port and a velvety texture so luscious it just might make a grown man weep.

Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of toasted, molasses and dark chocolate, moderate resin for the hops, light earth for the yeast. Head is small, creamy turning wispy, brown with good lacing and good legs and is mostly lasting. Color is black. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is full, creamy with a soft carbonation and a bit chalky in the finish and lightly alcoholic. Awesome looking, black as Ive seen, and the aroma though not very complex, is dark deep and rich. Great Imperial Stout.

Bottle courtesy of Sloth, thanks man! Black pour with a small and thin tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, dark fruit, and port. Flavor is very similar with lots of coffee and cocoa notes. Abv is slightly noticeable but not overwhelming. Just a nice big, roasty classic impy stout!

Hmmm...love going against the grain. Not a huge fan of this heavy hitter, too much soy and astringency. Drinkable, yes, but no where near a top notch.

Nice dark color that keeps most light from passing through except at the edges. Thin head. Coats the glass nicely. Nice sweet malt and roast on the nose. Good viscous mouthfeel. Good balance of bitterness and residual sweetness. No hot alcohol. Overall I enjoyed this beer quite a bit. I think its an excellent representative of the style
