Bomber, near room temp (chilled for just a couple hours). The first actual thing that happened when I poured this beer and saw its color and head was me unconsciously saying "wow, oh my god." It is that rich and impressive. Tastes and smells of coffee and chocolate, immensely satisfying. Really glad I decided to pick this up. 12 oz. bottle purchased at Oliver’s Beverage Center, Albany, NY. No bottle date anywhere to be found. Sure it sat for a while since I bought it in July. Anyhow, thick opaque black with huge beige head slowly fading to a thin ring. Aroma is light roast, licorice and dark fruits. Flavor is an extension of the aroma with a strong boozy finish. The alcohol burn after the sip is pretty strong leaving huge warming sensation after the sip. After looking at all the parts of this brew, I still enjoyed it rather much. Room temp, 20degrees, Caramel , alcohol, dark choc and coffee aromas, rich black in glass with a brown minimal head. Bitter on tongue first, smooth taste, minimal carbonation, lovely dry after taste leaving my mouth watering. I've brought four of these they are such a long drink, do not drink at fridge cold.

Pours a pitch black with a one finger khaki head with decent lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts, bakers coco, coffee, licorice, and some burnt wood notes. Taste is roasted malts, bakers coco, coffee, molasses, burnt caramel, dark fruits, some smokey woods notes, and a little tobacco. Has a medium-full body with a creamy, oily mouthfeel, and a slightly dry, semi bitter, medium-long finish. Overall, a pretty nice imp. stout that is surprisingly smooth and non-boozy for 9,8% abv.

Great Imperial Stout. Pure black body with a thin tan head and frothy lacing rings. Nose is nicely roasted with syrupy espresso and dark chocolate. tons of sweet roasty goodness with a hint of bourbon barrel and licorice. 22oz bottle. Pours a deep black color with a big tan head that falls slowly leaving nice lace. Aroma is rich dark chocolate and big earthy coffee with faint nutty notes. Molasses is evident, as is a touch of licorice and dark fruit. Taste has pronounced earthy coffee with a strong roasted profile. Dark chocolate is bittersweet lying underneath. A light bitterness comes through in the finish. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation.

UPDATED: AUG 1, 2013 Jet-black. Voluminous fine-bubbled cinnamon head coats the glass with ornate lacework. Dizzyingly complex malt aromatics of road tar, chocolate-covered espresso beans, salmiakki, earthy carob, vanilla bean, toasted graham cracker and burnt toffee excite the olfactory. Distant smoke, charcoal and peachy hops. Seductively soft and velvety mouthfeel. Tacky residuals immediately drip from the multilayered malt and ooze forth with a refined viscosity reminiscent of liquefied fudge laced with an ink-soaked blueberry vibrancy. Sharper seared-malt acids are enveloped by a fluffy smoke-and-nougat combo along with a profoundly dextrin-rich toastiness which further aids the velvety carbonation. Twist of citrusy hops provides some balance while fittingly echoing the array of fruity esters and profuse vinous qualities. Malt intricacy continues as a deeply browned bread (Crystal?) bitterness is supplied to the boundless, multilayered richness. Dab of caramelized brown sugar in there as well. Nary a hint of alcohol exudes amid the massive weight of the body. Utterly satiating in its malty fullness and untamed viscosity, though the sweetness is kept at bay by an intricately-woven blend of snug char, bittersweet chocolate, and burnt cocoa dryness. Brisk char and smoky espresso linger for an eternity in the complex, well-balanced finish. Wow, talk about a merciless assault of malt, malt, and more malt. Staggering depth, luxurious mouthfeel, intimidating blacker-than-black appearance, you name it. The vast majority of beers of this ilk would be kitchen-sink sugar-and-alcohol bombs, and the fact that this remains drinkable, nonetheless enjoyable despite the body’s girth, is a feat unto itself. And it’s bottle-conditioned, to boot. Hats off!
