The ancient legends that abound the Russian Imperial Stout of yore are filled with tempestuous romance, sinful thievery, and scurvy, too. So highly regarded was this historic recipe, the Russian Kings tried to keep it all to themselves. They failed. Today we bring you our own dastardly dark version, with a rich and roasty aroma, notes of plum and port and a velvety texture so luscious it just might make a grown man weep.

355ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a small and rapidly diminishing dark tan head. Earthy, savoury malt mixes with plum, liquorice and faint alcohol in the aroma. Mild herbal hops up front are soon overcome by smooth plum, which leads into a rich blend of port, faint liquorice and bittersweet dark chocolate. A mild Scotch whisky flavour comes in at the finish, which leaves a warming aftertaste. This is very fine imperial stout, with the rich, full body and subtle complexity that the style demands. Very good.

Picked up out on Big Sur with Patty, Andy and Kara. Heavy aroma of chocolate and coffee. Taste is predominantly sweet chocolate that coincides well with a touch of bitter coffee in the aftertaste. Full body, soft carbonation. A good one!

Pours a dark brown to black with a thin tan head. Nice roasted malt aroma. Just a tad thin for an Imperial Stout but not lacking on flavor. Nice roasted malts and very smooth and creamy texture. Pretty enjoyable

Miam !
