First sip I thought "omg this is as good as SN Kellerweis". I may have to do a side-by-side comparison, but i believe this to be true. really nice big flavor out of this hef, tons of fruity goodness in the flavor and finish. finish tiny bit short but you can’t expect bitter from this style. great aromatics. only complaints are: maybe could be "yeastier" (this is just a personal preference). and the head was pretty small. 1.99 for a bomber of this? the ads are true: 1.99 for quality craft brew. don’t pass it up if you’re craving a good hef, would be good for a dollar more even. i also believe it to be better than the solace, by comparison solace is too sticky and sweet. this drank incredibly easy and super refreshing, perfect amount of sweetness. i hope this catches on, people deserve great beer for cheap. can’t wait to try more SamGamgee (2585) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - JUN 14, 2010
22oz bottle from the local TJ’s, bottled five days ago. Why can’t the pale ale ever be this fresh? This just completely nails the style, and it’s easy to see how Firestone won the World Beer Cup with it this year. Pours a hazy to opaque deep gold to orange color with a big frothy white head. Properly restrained weizen yeast character in the aroma with lots of citrus, fresh baked bread, and supporting clove and slightly under-ripe banana. The flavor nails the ester-phenol balance without going over the top. There is lots of vivid fruit character (banana, persimmon) bit the finish isn’t at all sweet or cloying like many American renditions. Refreshing and dry, but with a filling and soft texture. An awesome summer session beer. I just hope people buy enough of this to keep it fresh on the shelves. rusty (1547) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - JUN 13, 2010
Pours a highly unfiltered cloudy yellow almost light brown with a foamy sticky white head and thick sticky lacing. Aroma is banana, coriander, spices, wheat, malt, esthers. Flavor is fruity esthers, banana, wheat, spices, easy to drink and extremely refreshing and very flavorful hefe. Right up there with SN Kellerweis. For $2.50 a bomber this is a steal. Appearance: Pours a cloudy amber gold with a big fluffy head. That fluffy head takes a while to subside to a sturdy white 1/8 inch head. It leaves behind lots of spotty lace marks. JohnC (3008) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - JUN 11, 2010
Aroma: Big fruity notes. Lost of citrus backed by roasted banana.
Taste: Ripe banana, bread dough and spicy hops.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with prickly carbonation.
Overall: Comes close to the greatness of Sierra Nevada Kellerweis. Very bold and balanced. I love this style when it’s on like this. May I add this is a way better beer than Firestone Walker Solace?
22oz bottle purchased at Trader Joe’s
This pours an opaque golden color with a small, tightly bubbled white head. The flavor and aroma both have some banana characteristics with touches of vanilla.
