COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan." In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2005 Cool jug! Boring beer. Bottle says black and tan, but it doesnt taste like any black and tan Ive ever had. Like an ordinary "pale lager" with artificial caramel color and flavor added. Insipid.

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2003 I expected something a little more flavorful, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

The color wasnt as dark as I expected. the flavor had a hint of caramel and the finish was hoppy.

I had seen this on the shelves for a long time before drinking it. Never noticed the black and tan part, I had always assumed it was a thick stout so the pour was surprisingly light. Bitter, not very strong. They must have hopped the lager to hell compared with the stout to make it taste like this.

I too thought the bottle was cool, but the beer wasnt that great. It is like a hoppy Black and Tan.

The jug caught my eye but that was about it. Not too much to it. Rather thin and bland for a stout.

This is a stout? Kind of watery and strongly lacking the strong malt flavor I expect from a stout. Fairly bitter, and a little bit sweet at first taste. Not bad, but not something to run out and buy.

This aint no stout - its just a fancy bottle of crappy beer. If you want to feel like a hillbilly, youd have way more fun drinking shine out of a mason jar. As long as you dont wake up next to your sister...

Like most people said, the bottles pretty neat. Malty type nose, no head, too fizzy, semi transparent look. Decent mouthfeel, easy sippin, but not too exxciting. It was rather entertaining reading the label too.
