UPDATED: JUN 17, 2017 Clear with small white head. Malty aroma. Flavour is slightly sweet, with a subtle but lingering bitterness. It was the first South African Ale that I ever tried, but I haven’t had it in quite some time. It’s still a solid, tasty bitter. Ktwse (4891) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 13, 2017

Backlog. From tap at Mitchell’s Scottish Ale House, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, with HO 10.04.12. Light copper in colour. Served slightly too cold. Aroma of caramel and toffee, well-balanced taste with a subdued but refreshing bitterness. Aftertaste of flavourful English hops and mild caramel. A sublime Yorkshire Ale brewed in Cape Town. UPDATED: DEC 31, 2013 Aroma: medium-high grassy hops, sour/spice
Appearance: Slightly hazy dark gold. Small off-white head.
Taste: Medium-high, long lasting Bitterness. dry finish, harsh bitter finish, light sweetness, biscuit, very crisp, high resin,
Palate:light body, medium-high carbonation
Overall: Something changed. The harshness makes the beer unpleasant. It is difficult to get anything out of this beer apart from hop resin and bitterness.
330 ml bottle, poured.
8A. Standard/Ordinary Bitter JorisPPattyn (10003) - Ursel, BELGIUM - MAY 20, 2013
Medium, slightly yellowish head over well-carbonated orange-golden beer. Aromatic hops, bit of lychee, citrus, faintly grassy. Nice, but smelling more like an APA than as a British bitter. Bitterish hoppy, again aromatic flavours. Ever so slighlty metallic finish. Weeds, citrus, exotic fruit. Spritzy carbonation; light body, but not empty, certainly for its 3.6%. Surprising is the word. Easily the best Mitchell’s tried so far, despite its modest ABV, and a sample that could not have been in peak condition. Many thanks to M & L!
