Great vanilla and coffee aroma, similar taste a bit milder on the vanilla side, good beet!

A dark opaque beer. Malty. Aroma of vanilla with a slight bitterness at first but strong malt finish. Heavy drink. Good for sipping over a fair amount of time, not to be rushed. Supposedly cocoa flavors - I suppose so; that taste is coffee-sequel but not coffee. Earthy yes. Spicy no. Definitely take your time. Smooth mouth feel with no lingering aftertaste. Food flavors will come through this beer, not overpowering.

UPDATED: JUL 29, 2014 Tap: Almost black body with darker brown edges, a bubbly khaki collar outlining the top of the beer. Aroma is quite nutty with lots of cacao backing it up. Light vanilla, but far too light for a "vanilla" milk stout. Aroma is mostly a dry, nutty roasted malt profile with a moderate creamy sweetness undertone, actually. Taste has lots of coffee bean, kind of surprising but okay. Lots of dry cocoa dust, too. Big roasted malt character with a bold, toasted nutty presence throughout. Again, faint vanilla - but it might just be suggested from the moderate creamy profile of this milk stout. For a stout will vanilla in the name, it needs to be heavier. Light bodied, a touch silky. Still a decent stout, but slightly misses the mark of its moniker.

On tap at the Mitten brewpub. Clear dark brown with ruby lowlights and a thin layer of foam atop. Aroma is up front vanilla with some dark roasted malts underneath. Chocolate, peanuts and a hint of sugar round out the nose. Taste is on the sweeter side with dark roasted malts, chocolate, lactose and plenty of vanilla.

Draft at The Mitten, Grand Rapids. Deep opaque brown body with orange highlights, medium creamy beige head. Bitter, roasty nose with vanilla bean. Light roasty body, a tad woody, with vanilla bean and a moderate acidic bite. Not bad.

Tap. Near black with small head. Nice milk stout. Lightly sweet. Not much if any vanilla.
