Bottle from Hol’Ab, pours a deep mahogany with a clingy beige head. A little coffee and prune on the nose, toffee and dark dried fruit on the palate, rich and slightly sweet. Very tasty.

Bottle from beer hawk in mystery case. Served cold. Poured brown , with a thin head. Taste was sweet liquid, no hops, and not much else. Not one for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

50cl bb06/2017, - so not "Rittenwalder Lager Dunkel"... - Auburn pour, little head. Wet (unroasted) chestnuts in aroma, grainish cow fodder and bready starches. Diluted pumpernickel in flavour lands at brackish liquorice and astringent chestnut peel - not a fan of either.

Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, figs and plums. Pours clear chestnut-brown liquid with a small head. Sweet and malty initial taste, fine roasting flavours, caramel and chocolate, subtle spicy hop finish. Medium-full body with an oily, little dry texture and average carbonation. More on the sweet side for a Dunkel, but pleasant-tasting and very drinkable.

Dunkel malziger, wenig herber Antrunk. Trocken bitterer Mittelteil, die Malzigkeit wird schwächer. Spritzig, mittellanger bitter-schokoladiger Nachhall. 8/10/9/9/8/9

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. Copper coloured with a thin white head. It has a chocolate and sweet red fruity flavour followed by rich malt, burnt toffee and roasted notes on the finish. Pretty good.

Listed on the label now as 5.2%. Pours from the bottle dark brown with a ruby tinge. The tan colored head soon fades without a trace. Aroma is very nutty, some caramel, and a hint of smoke. Roasted caramel notes dominate the otherwise unremarkable flavor. Sweet with very little bitterness. Unpleasant stale feel. Well, my bottle did exceed the best before date by 16 days. Low carbonation and a watery feel despite the somewhat oily palate. Mixed feelings on this one, but overall unimpressed. Maybe I caught a bad bottle.

On-tap at a beer garden in Mittenwald. Clear amber brown with a nice off-white head. Aroma is malty with notes of caramel and nuts. Sweet, balanced maly flavors, notes of caramel, prunes and bread, finish is mildly bitter. Medium-bodied. Decent easy drinking beer.

Clear, deep amber-ruby colored, small off white head, non lasting. Aroma is of malt, Munich, caramel, bread, light toast. Taste is medium+ sweet malt, caramel, Munich malt, bit nutty, bread, light toast, light bitterness, sweetish finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. A bit too sweet and syrupy but otherwise good Dunkel. (bottle, Hol’AB! Hannover)
