Moa The Hoppit displays lots of New Zealand hop characters, passionfruit, pine (herbaceous), grapefruit and fresh, sweet tropical hop aromas. A golden, orange hue with a great hop haze. Rich malt tones, almost toasted with a lingering marmaladey bitterness that displays a sharp but smooth, sweet finish. Dry hopped seven times over two weeks, this beer is massive on the senses.

Fritz123's rating

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 14/20

Draft at the Syb Pig in Boca Raton. Pours a deep orange-brown with significant haze. The one finger pillow head nearly look like a nitro head. Lots of lacing spider webs. The aroma was sweet fruits, pine hops, sweet malts, bread, biscuit. The taste wasn’t bad, but it was kind of a head scratch for a DIPA. The beer is sweet malts, tones of apricot or other fruits, and no real hop profile. Even the finish was sweet and not very hoppy. I suppose the balance was just favored heavily towards malts and not the hops. Thick, creamy mouth. Sweet finish.

Draft: Overripe orange, DMS. Cloudy ochre, all head. Overripe orange, boiled cabbage. Grass and pencil shaving finish. Cloying. Medium body, soft carbonation. This is all kinds of off.

wombat23 (1842) - Texas, USA - FEB 12, 2016
Shared 25.3 oz. bottle. Hazy dark copper with lots of sediment. Long-lasting off-white head with soapy lacing. Aroma of caramel, spice, malt, and citrus with floral elements. Taste is heavy on the malt, with a touch of citrus and pine. Seemed stale. Not the biggest Imperial IPA fan, but I suspect the bottle age likely affected this rating.

Aroma: fruity and hoppy; perfumey; Appearance: extreme haziness - in fact, many floating pieces that are a little scary; frothy head that dissipates pretty quickly; Taste: also fruity and hoppy, smooth; Palate: medium body with long, bitter finish; soft carbonation with little bite; Overall: decent but with underlying taste that I can’t place that isn’t particularly pleasant. Wouldn’t buy again.

not sure what was up with this, it couldn’t have been as old as it tasted . .. cardboard and musty english hops .. light booze .. murky brown .. i’ll try this again if on tap .. . . if you’re steering the car, who’s taking off your shirt?

Drake (14110) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 22, 2014
Draft at Beer Run, 7/10/14. Pours a clear golden color with a thin creamy off-white head. Good head retention. Aroma of tropical hops, lemongrass, lime zest, caramel malt. The taste is candied citrus, tropical fruit, lime zest, caramel. Medium bodied, low carbonation, mild lingering bitterness.

Draft @ World of Beer Dadeland. Pours clear amber color with off white head. Aromas of citrus, pine and caramel. Overly sweet caramel malt flavor with bitter grapefruit and some pine. Medium body with average carbonation and syrupy mouthfeel.

Draft at Nelson blue nyc . Pours a deep amber brow. Color with a sweet molasses taste. Interesting for the style

bmerz (741) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - JUN 14, 2014
Draught. Golden with a fleeting head. Aroma is sweet and very wet ripe tropical hoppy. Flavor follows with strong resin hippy bitter middle. I guess the flavor is passion fruit. Medium body and carb. It is fairly mono dimensional. Not bad by any means but not my preferred IPA style.

reebtogi (6403) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 9, 2014
Sampled at VCBW 2014 pouring a copper color with a large off-white head that leaves some nice lacing. Aroma is grainy with herbs and fruit. Taste is a grapefruit and herbal hop bitterness with a tropical fruit and malty sweetness. Medium bodied with decent carbonation. Tasty and well crafted DIPA that I highly recommend for others to enjoy.
